TuscanyTile2
I've always wanted there to be an option where you could turn the announcers off. I know there's a mute button on my TV but I'd still want to hear the crowd noise. I remember in the 1980's there was one game like that (I forget who played - possibly the Jets). Below is footage (a few mins at least) of a game from the 1970's with what I described. Fwiw, I also always wanted there to be a mic on the field so we could hear the players grunting, taunting, cursing at each other, etc. I wish it were an option on cable TV. (I know these will never happen btw but I'm just saying it would be cool if there were such an option).

You are correct that it was Jets/Dolphins. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Announcerless_Game

I just looked it up and 12/20/1980 was indeed a Saturday. I guess the NFL always had late season Saturday games (weeks 15 and 16). I'm not sure if those are back now though I certainly hope so. As bad as Thursday NFL is, I do like Saturday NFL.

Randy Rasmussen
That was a wonderful game, didn't have to listen to announcers missing things like penalty flags and good blocks away from the play.2nd best thing to being there.Sent from my iPhone using JetNation.com mobile app

I can hardly think of an announcer or commenttor I enjoy listening to. I have a feature on my TV which enhances the stadium sound and lowers announcers a lot. I love it. johnnyjet
Today's game may be unwatchable. I feel bad for the announcers.

I'm sure they get compensated pretty well for their efforts. I don't think anyone should feel bad for them.
