Cimini expects Jets to target Glennon

Hard to dislike Parcells for what he did in turning the team around, but his drafts made Idzik look like Ozzie Newsome with the exception of his Eillis/Abraham/Pennington/Becht draft.  That was about it.

Twice had 10+ picks and bombed worse than Idzik did.

Oh, and @T0mShane, who liked the Herm era?

Groh ran those drafts and as good as the drafts appeared we didn't get nearly enough w/ 4 1st rd picks.  Chad was always hurt, Becht was a good blocker, Abe was gone by 2006 and was always hurt.  Ellis was the only guy who gave us long term solid play.  BP is an all time great HC, as a GM type he's mediocre at best.

Parcells was sh*t in the draft room, but Abraham wasn't on the team long enough?  He was on the team for 6 years, got 50+ sacks, 3 pro bowls and 1 all-pro and they got a first when he left.  Give me a break.  I am sure the Texans and Pats are complaining that they picked Watt and Gronk cause they are hurt all the time.

This is true, but neither of those guys skipped a playoff game because they had a fever. Abraham was great, but when you pull a vagina move, you can't get salty when people consider you a vagina henceforth.

Eh.  He played some and was dehydrated and cramping up.  I don't remember guys hating on him too hard at the time.  What I remembered was him out with a significant knee injury in 2004 and the press and fans piling on because he said he had to think long term and make sure he didn't injure himself permanently.  That bastard!

It's not revisionist history.  Parcells knew what he had in Vinny.  And there was several articles that came out after VT took over that Parcells told those close to him that Vinnie was his ace in the whole.

BP starting Foley was because he didn't want to hand Vinnie the job.

Vinny's numbers in Cleveland and Baltimore were better than any QB in Jet history so I'm not sure why people here are saying he was terrible before he came here.

Yes Parcells was a terrible GM, too busy thinking immediate dividend over long term success.  But bringing in Vinny was one of the very few decisions he made that worked out.

Parcells didnt think long term for us because he was specifically hired to win as soon as possible and he almost pulled it off.

I cant really blame Parcells for that, because thats what Leon Hess wanted. Hess knew he was on his way out and was hoping for a Super Bowl.

Parcells built the Giants, Patriots, and that Cowboys team was loaded after he left. To say he doesn't know how to evaluate talent is way off base.

He knows how to evaluate pro talent.  He also knows how to build a staff better than any NFL coach in history.  Look back at our 1998 coaching staff.

But he had a lot of the same players on all his teams.  So he knew who could play in his systems and they followed him every where.

If this is true, this is even dumber than the alternative. So Parcells KNEW Vinny was his 'ace in the "whole"' yet let Foley start the season 0-2, only went to Vinny when Foley got hurt, and then went back to Foley when the Jets were 2-2  - only to see Foley go 5-15 and lose 30-10 to the Rams before handing the job back to Vinny.

Al Groh, a linebackers coach who was a panic hire when BB left and was HC for one year, ran multiple drafts with HOFer Bill Parcells in the building?  Link?

The issue wasn't talent.  Vinny didn't get released by Balt until Jun.  Signed with the Jets late June.  Parcells didn't think he could learn the system in time for the start of the season.  Vinny turned down bigger deals with at least two other teams because he knew he would start as soon as Parcells felt comfortable with Vinny and the playbook.

I always say part of being a good head coach is hiring good assistants. Rex and Bowles have been pretty bad at that.

Quote

Groh already has the final word on personnel matters: the draft, free agency, the hiring of coaches and the support people who make up a football operation.

In so doing, Parcells is assigning to Groh powers that Parcells never enjoyed with the Giants -- his first head coaching job -- or the Patriots, whom he left after control of personnel matters became a contentious issue with the owner, Robert K. Kraft.

''I think all of you know that I have a very strong belief in that a coach must be allowed to shape and form his team the way he wants to,'' Parcells said. ''I've been an advocate of that. I think it's important. I think he has enough experience coaching and has seen enough programs in operation to do that.''

Okay, your original quote was "Groh ran those drafts" so I wasn't sure what you meant.

As we've agreed on...Parcells had some terrible drafts.

So Vinny comes in week 3 and destroys the Colts 44-6, then moves on and defeats Miami 20-9. Foley gets healthy enough to play, and Parcells chooses to put him back in? Not sure I'm buying what you're selling.

Let's not forget he traded Hugh Douglas to the Eagles for a 2nd and a 5th.  Then they turned around around and traded the second away, while the 5th rounder was was a scrub.  Meanwhile Hugh Douglas, pass rusher extraordinaire had a fairly decent career

Quite possibly my least favorite Jets trade ever.  Hugh Douglas was clearly a stud from the day he came in to the league.  I thought Parcells dealt him for a 4th rounder, but that was a long time ago.

He had to have done something for Bill to give him away like that.  Even if he wasn't a fit for Parcells' system, he could've easily been a pass rush specialist.

Foley started weeks 1-2 and we were 0-2 and he was hurt, Vinny started against Indy and Miami then Foley came back and started the SL game before BP turned to Vinny for good the following week at NE.  I'm with you, it doesn't make sense if his plan was to go to Vinny.

I appreciate everything BP did as a coach to turn our franchise around, I am not sure people remember just how terrible we were when he took over BUT BP cost us Peyton Manning, Bill Belichick and tom Brady.  NE's dynasty should be our dynasty.

Also could've had Orlando Pace, but traded down and wasted a pick on Farrior who was a JAG as a Jet before becoming a monster in Pittsburgh.

**** Orlando Pace.   He traded down because "it was a weak draft."  Lost out on HOFer Pace for the Rams 1st, 4th, 6th and 7th.  Horrible value, but we still had #6 overall. Sitting there at #6 is HOF Walter Jones, but Parcells trades down again moving from 6 to 8 for an additional 4th.  WTF? Leon Johnson, Terry Day, Chuck Clements and Jason Ferguson were the only players if I have it right. What a jackass. i don't think Day or Clements even played.  Ferguson was very good but I think he had drug issues which caused him to drop.  Leon Johnson was okay, as long as you didn't ask him to throw an option pass.  Cough, cough.  Who needs a HOF LT?  We are overpaying Jumbo Elliot. Parcells did all this to make up for the picks we gave up for tampering with him when he left the Pats.

That's the difference between have SBs on your resume and being a first time HC.

Well if it wasn't obvious to everyone with a working eye ball that Vinnie was the better option before those games, then I don't know what to tell you.  Parcells did sh*t to push his players buttons.  In Vinny's mind, he was the starter.  It was almost 20 years ago so who gives a crap.

He was pushing buttons with Rick Mirer too?  He obviously wasn't the best option. Or maybe Parcells doesn't have a working eye ball.

If Jets Fans had it's way, our QB's next year would be Glennon, Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith.

In before someone says this would awesome, lol.

Give me Tyrod or Glennon, followed by winner of Hack vs. Petty and mid/late round pick.

No to Sanchez, and Hell no, to GeNOOOOO

Tyrod or Glennon would be way better than any qb we have had since Vinny in '98

I predict Hack won't even be on an NFL roster after next season
