Aj mccarron. Why not trade for him??? And what would we have to give up

The most I would give is a 5th and even that's a stretch. I agree with Carl here. Sign a vet to back up the kids..give a REAL evaluation next season of both and decide if QB is the pick next year or not. We have a solid QB draft next year if Darnold declares. I like Josh Rosen from UCLA a lot too. But first things first..giving the kids you drafted already a real chance. This isn't madden.

Cinci won't give him up cheap. If anything has been shown in the League the last few seasons its that serviceable back up QBs are a must and McCarron is able to step in and play when/if Dalton ever goes down. I can't see the Bengals parting with him for anything less than a 2nd round pick plus more.

Would you give up Sheldon for him?  I could see cincy being interested, and both could probably be had for a 3rd round pick.

I don't think AJ is worth a third, but I would trade a third or fourth straight up for Sheldon. I know AJ is definitely a good backup, don't know how much of an improvement he would be over Petty especially arm strength wise.

The Jets could have two AJ McCarrons on the roster right now (as in Petty and Hack). See what they have in 2017 and re-evaluate for 2018. No need to go dumpster diving for a QB, nonetheless trading a precious asset for someone like McCarron.

Petty and Hack are terrible

Mccarron and Glennon's passing records for all to see.  at least AJ has some game experience.  the biggest question for both of these guys is do they want to put in the hard work it will take to be a top flite qb? there are just sooooo many qb's who have all of the physical talent in the world but just can't seem to master the mental aspect of the game.

This is a safer move than throwing a ton of money at Glennon or Tyrod Taylor, IMO. Send them Sheldon for McCarron and a 3rd. He'll be making $700k next year. He gets a chance to prove he's worth investing in for the long term.

If he doesn't play well, you still get a third and can keep him on as a decent backup QB (which he's proven to at least be). Plus you'll have a high draft pick next year.

Also worth noting: He fit the Parcells criteria for drafting a QB.

Hes not the answer.  If he was any good, the bengals would be moving on from dalton and letting him take over.

Do you know how difficult it would be for and Owner and HC to move on from a QB like Andy Dalton for AJ McCarron after he only has 4 starts?

McCarron would be by FAR the best offseason target for the jets mainly because he is under contract for cheap money in 2017 and is a restricted FA in 2018 due to his injury in his first NFL season.

While his arm isnt elite, its more then good enough and this is a kid from a pro program who basically led his team to a win (4th qtr go ahead TD pass) in the playoffs.

WIth respect to sheldon, there is no way we get AJ and a pick for sheldon, but a trade of Sheldon straight up for AJ makes a lot of sense for both teams.  Marvin Lewis is in win now mode (which is why they are trading AJ in the first place) and has a history of taking guys with questionable character.  Plus sheldon's salary can fit there as they are way under the cap.

If we could get a  possible starter for 2 years without having to make a huge monetary committment and all we need to give us is a player we need to trade anyway, that is a huge win for the jets.

we really need to move on from the strategy of collecting back up QB's.

Build a decent core, then trade up to draft one, or trade for a starter

No better opportunity than the 2018 QB class. We must fully evaluate the guys we already have drafted so we leave no questions on the table when it comes time.
