BCJet
Jacksonville declined to pick up Kelvin Beachem's option making him a FA. Beachem was a sold LT in Pittsburgh before tearing his ACL in October 2015, which allowed Alejandro Villanueva to take over at LT. Villanueva played well enough that Pitts let Beachem go and Jacksonville signed him to a long term deal, with a big option for this offseason which they declined. He didnt play all that well this year, however given his age and that he was coming off an injury, he is the type of player who could solidify LT for 5+ years without costing us $8-10 million. IMO he would be an excellent signing to pair with Shell as RT and Ijalana as our swing tackle.
Bleedin Green
At the right price, I would certainly think it's a worthwhile move to make. While a little risky given last year's step backwards, he's still better than anything the Jets currently have, and far more often than not, players tend to rebound a bit from a down year that they have post-injury. He's also young enough to make that much less of a concern then a guy on the tail-end of his career. If he ends up needing a huge contract, that's a different story, but otherwise he seems like a better option than most of the other ones the Jets have to look at right now. Of course, that reality is going to apply to other teams in need of a LT as well, which could drive up his price tag, even despite the down year. CrazyCarl40
The Jags had a worse offensive line than the Jets did and that's saying something. The fact they aren't retaining this guy should speak volumes, if not here is PFF's assessment: The play of Kelvin Beachum was a massive disappointment, given what he has shown in the past. Beachum was poor as both a pass blocker and in the run game, and surrendered 49 total QB pressures on the year.

Not only is he 27 years old, but he was protecting a QB who holds the ball too long on a team that had its OC fired mid-season. We can get Joe Thomas is we all want - just need to trade a first round pick and pay $10+ million per year. If we want to find a player whose contract value will be less than his production on the field, that player will come with risks and Beachem represents an excellent risk-reward potential
dbatesman
As Tom pointed out, this move would only make sense if we can also piss away a 5th-round pick in the bargain.

Does it count when one isn't actually given away, but instead all possible comp picks are cancelled out?
jamesr
If I recall correctly, we made a a decent effort to sign Beachum last year (before D'Brick officially retired).

BCJet
Miami Herald is reporting the Jags are interested in Brandon Albert to take over LT after declining Kevin Beachem's Option. That is why the Jags are bad - replacing a 27 year old LT with a 32 year old who hasnt played 16 games basically ever. Just shows how clueless that organization is. Hopefully Mac pounces on Beachem asap
section314
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we just go through all this with Clady?
