And there a mess of broken men who didn't vest in the NFL's pension fund because of roster and practice squad rules. Revis took full advantage of a system designed to screw players over at every turn and suppress their salaries with cap rules. Grant you it was not pretty, but I don't here anyone complaining about the owners' profits because they artificially suppress players salaries.

Do you go to a casino to root for the house?

20 and out-wild guess; you did your 20 and got out in a civil service job. How would you like if instead of 20, your municipality figured out a way to make you work more than 20, your union went a long (the NFLPA being a joke that cannot even get retired guys decent health care),  and simply told you "Fukc off, them's the rules" work 24 years instead.

You are correct. I did do 20 and out for a municipality. The municipality got the better of the deal for 20 years and now I get the better of the deal. We both operated under the contracts and employment conditions agreed to. NFL payers know what they are signing up for and the NFL doesn't get to, nor has it changed rules mid stream (at least not without the NFLPAs consent) Revis has gotten the better of the deal all along and if you think he gives a damn about, or does anything for all those other players that weren't so lucky you are dead wrong.  He is Mevis and has always made it clear he doesn't give a sh*t about anybody but himself.

The Jets don't owe Darrelle Revis anything! F*ck him & his uncle! Revis NEVER played under a contract not worthy of his talent. Look at someone like Antonio Brown & his rookie contract that he honored. You guys are nuts to think the Jets owe Revis anything. He wasn't a GREAT JET, he was TEAM REVIS. The guy won a Super Bowl with our most hated rival over the past 15 years. It would be like Big Ben going to the Ravens for a year, winning a Super Bowl & then coming back & playing like Geno Smith! I don't even consider this guy a NY Jet. When you make over $1,300,000 per game & refuse to tackle your persona non grata in my fan book. I don't think you would EVER see that from great defenders like Woodson, Reed, Watt, it was disgusting to watch. Probably the most selfish, self preservation play I have ever witnessed in pro football & im 56 years old. The New York Jets owe Darrelle Revis NOTHING! He had 2 great years 2009/2010, he got paid handsomely for it & even held out in the 2010 camp and then hurt his hammy. F*ck him & his Uncle and the whole Revis family he said he needed to take care of financially.

This. Revis has always been about Revis, never about the Jets. I can't believe people want to suck up to this low life for eternity just because for a few years he could cover wide receivers. I'm only interested in my teams "honoring" the history of players who represented the team admirably, not just by their athletic ability. True greatness in sports of course means excelling as a player and winning (which we never did), but it also means being someone that I'm proud to have my young children look to as an example of how to conduct yourself. Revis isn't that. Curtis Martin was that. Dennis Byrd certainly was that. D'Brickashaw was that. Frankly, defending Revis makes you no better than one of these delusional Pats/Brady fanboys or these new-found ARod advocates.

no reason to make a martyr

you assume that Revis is willing to renegotiate.  He has never shown such wilingness unless it is in his own favor.

nonsense.  The Pats release/trade players all the time once they have passed their peak.  And that helps them get to championships.

I agree that he was a great Jet.  Past tense. But this is now.  The Jets need to move on.

Be more like the Patriots.  You don't pay a player based on his past performance only.  Must look to what he contributes currently.

Which is why they made zero attempt to keep him 2 years ago. Robert Kraft may be despicable in many ways, but he is a great owner. He would never shove a player like Revis down his coach and gm's throat to try to get back in the good graces of his fans like our brain dead owner did.

the fact that it's a non-monetary bond means that the court thinks most of the charges are baseless.  not saying it was a smart thing for revis to have done but from what i've read it seems like there's not enough evidence.  maybe the other guys will sue him in civil court but again there needs to be some evidence that revis slugged them.

as for what the jets will do, imo it depends on how the case plays out over the next couple of weeks.  they have until march 11 to release him or pay the roster bonus. if they try to recoup the 6 million in cap money then that'll be a huge distraction.  they should just eat it and move on and hope revis can sign with another team.

This is not even close to being true.

All it means is they believe he will appear at all the times he needs to appear.  Has zero to do with the charges.

Where do people get this crap from.

These are very serious charges

as for the 6 mil, your damn right they should go after it   This guy has always been about him self and never the Jets  if he such  great jet how about he retires and let's the Jets save the 6 mil in cap room?   Oh that's right, he will never walk away from a dime

Again drunk bar fights on Saturday nights are piece of sheet cases no matter who is involved. Revis is not the player he was, but that doesn't make this case any more serious. it's going to get dismissed or pled out to almost nothing some day soon.

Revis did nothing wrong or detrimental to the "Club". He didn't go cruising for trouble unlike the two perpetrators he knocked out cold. He tossed the goon's cell phone which could've been used as a weapon. A "terroristic threat" could've been anything from "I'm reporting your family to Trump" to "I'll have Chris Christie sit on your face." And what ever happened to freedom of speech? Revis plays defense. He defended himself. He didn't pull out a gun like every other ghettoboon with an NFL contract would. He defended himself old-fashioned grassroots American style and WON. We need more Darrelles.

One of the subplots to the Darrelle Revis case is his large contract with the New York Jets. They owe him $6 million even if he's not on the team in 2017, but they could try to have the contract voided because of his legal issues stemming from his alleged involvement in a street fight last weekend in Pittsburgh.

At this point -- assuming the likely outcome that they release him -- it's unknown whether the Jets will try to recoup the $6 million.

We'll walk you through what could develop into a controversy over his money. Here are the particulars:

No doubt, the Jets are exploring their options. In the end, the feeling here is they'll cut Revis on March 10, write him a $6 million check and tell everyone it was a football decision.

Probably the best scenario for all involved. This move gives the Jets some cap relief and gives Revis the chance to hook on with another club. The best solution in an otherwise messy situation. It doesn't matter if Revis was the best player the Jets ever had it's business plain and simple. He was most likely gone before this incident anyway. I don't think the Jets should go after the 6 mil. Call it severance or whatever.

I can't believe we want this guy at safety? He's afraid to stick his head in there & tackle anymore. It wasn't about his wrist, it was about the concussion he suffered. Revis should never have been resigned, especially at that ridiculous contract. Just shows you what a f*cking idiot our owner is. Revis..Hey Woody & Mike, meet my azzhole agents at the diner so my white collar criminals can take a huge sh*t on your faces & hold your franchise hostage.

How Woody finds it OK to bring him back answers any f*cking question why the franchise we root for is the laughing stock of the NFL right there we the Cleveland Browns.

Agree, but this the first and biggest blow to his image, coupled with last years performance (mailing it in) and his first ballot status is in question and that is something he cares about

Mac can sell him on continuity, stay with the Jets,  one good season makes most of this go away, etc..

i think revis has lost his fire to play  he may still have enough physical talent to play corner but if he has to tackle a lot of the time it won't be pretty.  the funny thing is revis was a good tackler and should know that players get into trouble when they stray away from good technique.

Regardless of how the criminal charges play out, through the eyes of many, this incident will leave a black mark on Revis' reputation.

In my opinion, the  best publicity move for Revis at this point would be to say, "Yes, I will work with you. I'll renegotiate my contract".

Not saying the Jets should do it, but RIGHT NOW, it would probably be in HIS best favor.

Did he refuse to do this in 2017?

So if hes innocent of all charges this will leave a black mark because he defended himself against 2 thugs?

I say hooray for Revis for kicking the sh*t out of 2 dredges of society.

This. Unless there's a security camera that caught the whole incident, Revis will never get convicted.

Nothing on the cell phone shows Revis doing anything wrong, and the victims can't even identify the person who actually punched them.

Thugs? Perps? Revis is a celebrity. WHen you are a celebrity people approach you looking for pictures whatever. This is what happened and revis got violent. They have video. The cops have seen the video and are charging Revis as the aggressor. The robbery charge will be sh*tcanned as will the "terroristic threats" but the assault charges will be hanging around for a while at least.

As of Thursday night, police hadn't questioned Revis to hear his side of the story, Jones said. A second Pittsburgh defense attorney told NJ Advance Media Revis shouldn't expect to serve jail time.

"He's likely looking at anything from probation to a relatively low state prison sentence upon conviction of the most serious charges," David Zuckerman, of the Pittsburgh-based Zuckerman Law Firm, said.

"Those charges are going to be hard to prove. Did he have the intent to cause serious, permanent injury to those individuals? I could see this resolving in a simple assault. If he has no record, it could very well end up going into a diversionary program on misdemeanors."

I think they should cut him unless he is willing to renegotiate his deal downwards. But not screw him and try to keep the remaining money on his contract. It legally would probably he hard to do and not worth the bad publicity and anger from other players. If you want to build an org that has the trust and respect of NFL players and the player's union you don't go after someone who had one legal problem in his entire NFL career. So pay him the 6 mil and let him walk. I don't know why fans are interested in this kind of thing. It saves Woody money not us.

Yes joe, I still believe even if he were found innocent, it would leave a black mark on his reputation. True, we don't have all of the facts yet. But, reports that he may have been looking at real estate investments at 2:30 in the morning,  will always have SOME people QUESTIONING what really took place.

It may not be fair, but it's just what I believe.

You were not there and don't know squat. With every post you only express your shortsightedness and inability to accept any view but your own. Why not wait and see how it plays out before convicting ANYONE of anything? Just because you worship the player Revis used to be does not make him guilty or innocent of anything until proven so.

..The Jets Probably Won’t Be Able to Void Darrelle Revis’ Cap Hit No Matter What Happens

In the last day, much discussion has been focused on Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis for reasons that are understandable. He has been charged with multiple felonies.Questions have followed about how this could impact his contract situation. Revis has $6 million guaranteed for 2017. Could it now be in jeopardy?

First of all, it is important to note how far away we are from that even being a viable possibility. Revis has been charged, but charges are accusations. Defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and we know none of the facts of what took place.Even if the case was to follow the scenario where the Jets could conceivably seek to recoup the money, it is very difficult to envision that actually happening.

Darryl Slater looked into Revis’ contract and found it is theoretically possible depending upon the outcome of this case.

The deal states Revis could be in default of his contract -- and have all of his 2017 guaranteed pay wiped out -- if he is "fined or suspended by the NFL or Club for Conduct Detrimental" or "fined or suspended for violation of the NFL Personal Conduct Policy" or "engages in personal conduct reasonably judged by Club to adversely affect or reflect on Club."

In a practical sense, though, the timetable simply wouldn’t work for this to happen no matter the outcome of Revis’ legal matter. The league is unlikely to act until the case is resolved. Nobody knows the facts of the case so that last clause about personal conduct cannot be used until the facts are known. They probably won’t be known until later in the process. The process is unlikely to conclude before March 9, which is the first day of the league year. That is when teams can start using their salary cap space to sign free agents.

Slater and Florio both note that if the Jets cut Revis, they would lose any right to recoup that $6 million. The Jets will almost certainly cut Revis before March 9, though. Doing so creates over $7 million in new cap space. If the Jets hold onto Revis past March 9, he still counts against the cap. That is $7 million and change the team cannot use to upgrade the roster. All of this would be to try and regain money when the team will have no idea whether it has a chance to regain it at all.I know people are going to focus on that last “engages in personal conduct” part, but there’s little chance the Jets will have the type of information they would theoretically need by March 9. And having him clogging the cap space by waiting for this to play out would be silly for a lot of reasons.

The bottom line is the timeline doesn’t match up for the Jets to get that money back no matter what happens.

as I posted earlier, the real issue is whether to keep Revis or not.  Cutting him saves the Jets $9 million no matter what.  Is the slower, laissez-faire Revis we saw last season worth $9 million now?  IMO, no. Not even close.  Perhaps if Revis brought some intangibles to the table, such as being a leader and role model to the team in the clubhouse, inspiring and mentoring young CBs, etc. (none of which he has EVER been reported as doing), then perhaps it would be worthy of consideration.  But the recoverability of the remaining $6,000,000 in guaranteed money is just a side issue, one that, IMO, is secondary and not all that important in making the decision to keep or cut.
