(CNN)Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave, died Wednesday night, his representative told CNN.

Cornell, 52, was in Detroit performing with Soundgarden, which had embarked on a US tour in April. Brian Bumbery, his representative, called Cornell's passing "sudden and unexpected" in a statement to CNN.
"His wife Vicky and family were shocked to learn of his sudden and unexpected passing, and they will be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause," the statement read. "They would like to thank his fans for their continuous love and loyalty and ask that their privacy be respected at this time."

A buddy just messaged me to say he heard that they suspect suicide.

First signer I ever saw live when Soundagrden opened up for GNR at MSG when I was a kid and then saw him a few years ago with Audioslave.

Of all the musician deaths, I'm taking this one the hardest. This is just utterly unbelievable.

Just saw a tweet saying Soundgarden covered Led Zeppelin's in my "In my time of dying" last night.

In my time of dying, I want nobody to mourn
All I want for you to do is take my body home

Well, well, well, so I can die easy [x2]
    Jesus, going to make up

Jesus, going to make up my dying bed
    Meet me, Jesus, meet me
Meet me in the middle of the air
If my wings should fail me, Lord
Please meet me with another pair

Well, well, well, so I can die easy [x2]
    Jesus, going to make up

    Somebody, somebody
    Jesus going to make up
Jesus going to make you my dying bed
Well, well, well, so I can die easy
    Jesus, going to make up
    Somebody, somebody
    Jesus going to make up
Jesus going to make you my dying bed

Oh, Saint Peter, at the gates of heaven
    Won't you let me in
    I never did no harm
    I never did no wrong
Oh, Gabriel, let me blow your horn, let me blow your horn
Oh, I never did, did no harm
I've only been this young once
I never thought I'd do anybody no wrong
    No, not once
Oh, I did somebody some good
    Somebody some good
    Oh, did somebody some good
I must have did somebody some good
    Oh, I believe I did
    I see the smiling faces
I know I must have left some traces
And I see them in the streets
And I see them in the field
And I hear them shouting under my feet
And I know it's got to be real
    Oh, Lord, deliver me
    All the wrong I've done
    You can deliver me, Lord
I only wanted to have some fun
Hear the angels marching, hear them marching, hear them marching
    Hear them marching, the' marching

Oh my Jesus, oh my Jesus, oh my Jesus [x3]
Oh my Jesus, oh my Jesus
    It's pretty good up here
Oh Georgina, oh Georgina, oh Georgina, oh Georgina
    Oh I'll see you again
Oh, don't you make it my dying, dying, dying

    Cough!
That's gotta be the one, ain't it?
    Come have a listen, then
    Oh yes, thank you

Bill Burr put it perfectly. There is literally not one thing he was ever involved in that hasn't held up over time.  Soundgarden, Audioslave, his solo stuff...etc.

Best part of Man of Steel, the part where my son found out who he was

I know I'm in a minority when it comes to MoS, but I absolutely loved it (still do) and the montage where this song kicks in might be my favorite part of the flick.

There is a scene in Collateral where Audioslave kicks on too which always gives me the chills.

Side note, I liked Man of Steel.  I liked the Nglr of the trouble he had growing up.   That part with the song was great

    Just, huge talent

I haven't listened to anything else since I heard this news Thursday morning.

I am still reeling from this one. The man had the most amazing voice I have ever heard.

Was privileged to see him solo last year. It was an incredible show. He played the music for U2's One while singing the lyrics to Metallica's One - unreal.

He was a once in a lifetime talent.
