All reports coming from OTA's say it's not even close.  Not only is Hack still awful Petty is throwing picks to PS scrubs

Let's be honest even if that wasn't the case that's what you'd be reporting anyway.

Regardless of how bad Petty and Hackenberg might or might not be, what exactly is going to happen during the first few weeks of the season that McCown is starting?  Are they going to magically "get it" and all of a sudden become viable options??  Those few weeks riding the bench again to begin the season are going to make all the difference?  I call BS!!!  They've both had plenty of time to "develop."  Let one of them learn on the job as the starter.  If they do, great, if not, we stink in 2017 and reload with a top draft pick in 2018.  McCown should NOT be in the equation this year at all.

Indication of things to come

Petty has been in the NFL three years now.  Josh McCown is a bad player.  Petty should at least be even with him

Obvious charade.  The two incumbent QBs started off as #2 and #3.  Being their usual stupid selves the Jets started Hackenburg out on the kiddies field which totally perpetuates the we whole bust mantra about him from day one.  The coaching staff are nothing but utter tools.

Even is McCown is going to be your guy they have said it will be an equal battle and they will all get reps.  A smart coach would have at least eased the new guy in and boosted the 2nd rounder.  Instead from day one they show no confidence in the player.

A football team is not a charity. Spots must be earned. Giving a player a job doesn't make them worth the job. That's what they did with Geno Smith.

The coaching staff works with what they are given by the front office. It's like if you give a jockey three horses to choose from and he takes the fastest horse, despite being the oldest. Fans wonder what about upside? what about hope?

The race is now. The games they are trying to win are now. Not next year. Bowles doesn't have all these years given to him for the team to start Hack and lose every game and he will have his job forever.

McCown is the lowest bar of what can be considered a "starting" QB

If Hack or Petty can't beat out McCown they don't deserve to start it's that simple

The answer to McCown starting isn't to eliminate the competition or stack it in favor of the youth. The answer is to find better youth.

Not sure what you are saying here.  This was supposed to be three way every one gets a shot race.  The QBs were ordered in a fashion that indicted they had already slotted them into spots.  If indeed this is an 'open' competition then the QBs should not have been preslotted on day one.  Unless I hear, 'oh we drew lots' and it just turned out that way their claim that it was wide open from day one is suspicious and MCcown has to earn his time just as much as the other two.

there needs to be a 1 a 2 and a 3 for practices. They can't really make a depth chart with 3 #1's. The ugly truth is that McCown is the QB1 and he earned it by not being as terrible as the others. If Hack was legit he would be QB1 right now. This idea that he's going to develop so much between May and July or between Week 1 and week 10 is hopeful. After a year on the bench, an offseason with Jordan Palmer etc he should be QB1 now. The fact that he can't beat out the worst starting QB in the league is not a conspiracy it's what Bowles has to work with.

Maybe they slotted them by salary.
