Fox Sports: We're not tanking, we just suck

That sounds about right.  The only person involved with an NFL team who could ever possibly make a play for a tank year would be a GM, and that's only if they are certain to be safe even after an awful year.  Neither players nor coaches will ever get on board with that, if only just for their own sake, with perhaps the exception of a week 17 game, and even that doesn't always happen.  In the NFL, just one season of being the worst is going to lead to the ends of many careers.

For as much as people like to use the Colts supposedly "intentionally" tanking for Luck as an example, the fact that the Polians and Caldwell were all fired after the season that got them the #1 pick tells you that there was either nothing intentional about it, or they were idiots for agreeing to play along with that.

Solid article. I thought the Jets would make every move they have the second the season ended. And I am not sure ANY of them has actually made us a worse team as they were all playing like mediocre JAGS or injured. And if that is true, and we replace them with players that are just slightly above JAG we might be better. I think we will. The only player we lost that is an argument from a talent standpoint is Decker, but he is always injured and his release was about chemistry more than anything. The Jets are not tanking they are BUILDING. And I am as excited about this season as any in a long while, especially if Hack starts. If I see improvement and development every week, I wont care how many games we win and I will truly enjoy the upcoming season.

maybe but i don't know about the dolts.  irsay is one moronic and psychotic owner who would order a suk for luck.  it could be polian and caldwell were fired after they had resigned so irsay could look like a big man.  and if teams can intentionally throw games it's going to be real interesting with the raiders in las vegas.  of course illegal gambling operations can happen in any city.

The stadium in Vegas is going to have Wi-Fi and programs enabled to allow people to gamble on their smartphones while at the game

What a cluster

Betting was allowed and approved by the state on Nevada.  Not the NFL or the Raiders

Tagliabue would have never allowed the raiders to move to Vegas

That NHL expansion franchise is going to be such a disaster.  Vegas is actually a poor city it couldn't support an NHL franchise if it wanted to

Teams that are signing 38 year old starting qb's and offering deals to 40 year old possession receivers aren't tanking

The schizo move in the tank thing. Typical Jets; let's half ass this completely.

I suspect a large percentage of tickets to games will be given by casinos to guests.

It's 100% true.  I said this in another thread.  Teams dont tank in the NFL.  They dont purposefully lose games in Dec.for the fans because they think some kid in college is the next big thing.  That's not how it works.  They try to win every single snap in the NFL because that's what you have to do to stay in the league.  This is a league the average career last 3 years and no contract is guaranteed.  Every snap you take is on film.  That film is everything to your career.  These guys are playing to win every game they're in and every snap they take because that's how you stay in the league.

Tanking, losing games in Dec, etc. - pure fan talk but it's not reality.

For the record I think our defense is going to keep us in a lot of games, but they're going to be on the field so much that it won't matter in terms of winning games.

really? williams and wilkerson are the only real players on the defense. the new safeties can be good but they are rookies. we are going to get torched all year and our offense is the worst in the league easily

Nfl games are once a week on Sunday so the wealthier residents in the suburbs can go.  The Raiders will have no problem selling out games the Golden Knights however will be playing in an empty arena

Understatement. Once the initial curiosity subsides, my guess is that 50-60% or more of the seats will be comped by casinos each week.  As for Home Town advantage and fan support at the stadium itself, it will be very similar to Jets home games as far as non fans being there.

But fielding a piss-poor 22 men can ensure the tank. It's not a player or coaching move. It's  100% a GM and owner mechanism. Players don't tank on the NFL.  But a GM can. And eventuslly, a player will just quit, as we saw so obviously with Brandon Marshall and Revis. Although Revis sucked even when he was trying.

I kind of disagree. Burris showed some real promise as a #2 corner along side Claiborne, and Darryl Roberts didn't seem too bad either. Despite what people say, Darren Lee showed some real flashes last year and will be better this season. Leo is just getting better and if Shel and Mo actually feel like showing up, I think our D will be formidable.

Considering who's running the team, deliberately tanking and accidentally sucking aren't mutually exclusive propositions.

You could probably add in deliberately sucking and accidentally tanking as options too. ;-)

you must be young. i used to have that perennial positive out look for the team. thinking best case scenario for every player and how they will all get better than they were last year.....another year in the system, another year together to gel, more experience in the league blah blah blah. but 30 years of crap sets you straight

I'm actually pretty old - I became a Jets fan during the year we lost the mud bowl, so I got used to painful losses pretty early on. I still try to find the positives though, even in years when there aren't any, like this one (I even hoped the Jets would improve during Kotite's second year - call me the ultimate sucker)
