Bleedin Green
That sounds about right. The only person involved with an NFL team who could ever possibly make a play for a tank year would be a GM, and that's only if they are certain to be safe even after an awful year. Neither players nor coaches will ever get on board with that, if only just for their own sake, with perhaps the exception of a week 17 game, and even that doesn't always happen. In the NFL, just one season of being the worst is going to lead to the ends of many careers. For as much as people like to use the Colts supposedly "intentionally" tanking for Luck as an example, the fact that the Polians and Caldwell were all fired after the season that got them the #1 pick tells you that there was either nothing intentional about it, or they were idiots for agreeing to play along with that. Freemanm
For the record I think our defense is going to keep us in a lot of games, but they're going to be on the field so much that it won't matter in terms of winning games.

I thought the Jets would make every move they have the second the season ended. And I am not sure ANY of them has actually made us a worse team as they were all playing like mediocre JAGS or injured. And if that is true, and we replace them with players that are just slightly above JAG we might be better. I think we will. The only player we lost that is an argument from a talent standpoint is Decker, but he is always injured and his release was about chemistry more than anything. The Jets are not tanking they are BUILDING. And I am as excited about this season as any in a long while, especially if Hack starts. If I see improvement and development every week, I wont care how many games we win and I will truly enjoy the upcoming season.
jgb
Nice article and I agree the only time teams truly tank is MAYBE the last couple weeks of a lost season the players ease up a bit and start thinking about the Golf course. No way you're getting coach and player buy-in for a tank in June.Sent from my iPhone using JetNation.com mobile app

sciond
I have watched them tank for most of the last 48 years..... with a few exceptions and we still suck and yet I watch every down of every game I am a glutton for punishment.

I said this in another thread. Teams dont tank in the NFL. They dont purposefully lose games in Dec.for the fans because they think some kid in college is the next big thing. That's not how it works. They try to win every single snap in the NFL because that's what you have to do to stay in the league. This is a league the average career last 3 years and no contract is guaranteed. Every snap you take is on film. That film is everything to your career. These guys are playing to win every game they're in and every snap they take because that's how you stay in the league. Tanking, losing games in Dec, etc. - pure fan talk but it's not reality.

Understatement. Once the initial curiosity subsides, my guess is that 50-60% or more of the seats will be comped by casinos each week. As for Home Town advantage and fan support at the stadium itself, it will be very similar to Jets home games as far as non fans being there. Players don't tank on the NFL. But a GM can. And eventuslly, a player will just quit, as we saw so obviously with Brandon Marshall and Revis. Although Revis sucked even when he was trying.
