Tom Pelissero of the NFL network is reporting that the Jets have called around to gauge interest in running back Matt Forte.

As Pelissero says in the above tweet, Forte’s $4 million salary could make it tough to pull off a deal.  GM Mike Maccagnan would have to get creative to attract any takers.

Bag of broken cookies? - Really they aren't getting anything for him.

Never hurts to try.

Call Jerry with Zeke's suspension looming and see if you can get a 6th or 7th if you pick up some of the tab.

Call Kansas City they are in need of a back now, maybe we can get back a signed Pat Mahomes football.

Don't get fleeced either.  That bad boy better be signed with his dominant hand.

Unfortunately Forte is done as a runner, a receiver out of the back field, or third down back now. Jerrys not paying for that.

amazing they wait until the end of camp to try and trade this guy.  obviously they will get nothing and then cut him. more mistreatment of vets by this sham of an organization.

Why does timing matter with a trade?  It's not like what they did with Decker and Harris where they got dumped and had to try to find work.  There have been several NFL trades this week.  Are all of those teams shams?  Pats, 49ers, Saints, Colts?

Actually the timing might be a bit more ripe now that teams know what they're RB situation is looking like going into the season and they saw Forte playing acceptably last weekend. Some teams have their RB's hurt like KC, would they take Forte in the spring?

Wouldn't expect a lot in return, the biggest get we could gain from trading Forte is getting cap savings.

Yeah. Only about 4 months late. What an a$$hole team the Jets are sometimes.

Teams had more options four months ago.  There's really no "good" time to move a RB who's running on fumes, but a time where teams are losing backs to injuries and suspensions, it probably increases the chances of moving Forte from 1% to 2.5%.

Lets dump every vet at every critical position......except at QB!  Let's instead trot out there week after week the single worst QB in the league over the last 3 years.  This organization is friggin clueless.

Forte is far from critical.  He's definitely worse than Powell, and may not be better than McGuire at this point.

McFadden and Morris are both better than Forte. There's no need or fit there.

Kareem Hunt and Charcandrick West are fine and Forte isn't better than either at this stage. Not sure they actually have a need.

That too. I'm fine with moving on from Forte from a competitive standpoint. He's gravy at this point, the only reason he's on the team is because his deal is guaranteed and I don't think the other RB's besides McGuire and Powell beat him out in camp.

Makes sense.  As much as people were calling for him to simply be cut, that makes little-to-no sense unless they had 3 other RBs they really wanted to keep on the active roster, as opposed to it simply being an age thing, given it would cost more to send him packing than keep him.  Of course, the Jets will get minimal offers for a straight-up trade, but there's little doubt that the Jets are offering to cover some of the $ and get little back in return.  Switching the contract to have $2M bonus paid by the Jets and then a conditional 7th rounder could happen.  I also have little doubt Forte would be completely on board with that, given how much he was looking for a "winning team".

The point is that dumping vets to give younger players long looks and opportunities is a GOOD thing in a rebuilding year, but to do that across the board EXCEPT at the most critical position on the field is mind numbing stupidity!

I watched Hunt he misses the open hole A LOT, and West is more of outside runner who can't beat out a rookie RB that can't find the open holes, I'd say Forte is an upgrade.

The strength of our skill positions is at Rb. With Forte and Powell. It's not as if we have good depth at running back. So if they trade Forte and even have to pay some of his salary which isn't that much (4 mil) for a veteran it doesn't say a lot for the direction of the team. Since we have little at wide receiver and at tight end in terms of experienced personnel. Imo Forte with McCown could add a lot esp as a pass catcher. Getting rid of him leaves us with little. I don't get it unless Woody before he left decided to financially bail on 2017. The surprise is they outbid other teams to sign McCown,

sh*t then we must give Forte a raise to make sure he is paid like a top starting RB.

Not that it matters, but Forte kind of needs to be here considering the Jets have zero other backs besides Powell. The Jets never seem to have backs or receivers, probably because they never draft any.

Don't understand the logic.  We just drafted Devin Smith who would probably be a top 10 playmaker in the NFL had it not been for an unfortunate injury.  Mac also signed Robby Anderson and drafted Peake and Stewart
