I like the show, mostly for Boomer and Recco, but turned it off whenever a gambling segment came up as it didn't interest me and I felt it was as wrong as someone talking about the benefits of smoking or alcoholism.

I feel for his young family.  Finanically ruined and ridiculed.  They don't deserve what's coming.  Not to mention the FAN-  losing their 2 top shows to retirement and lawlessness, this could take them down.

As someone mentioned earlier just because you work with someone doesn't mean you KNOW them and all of their dealings.  Now is this a total shock to Boomer?  I bet off the record he'd say maybe not to this degree but not a total shock. 

Anyone that listened to him over the yrs can be shocked it's to this degree but are we really surprised? I'm not.

Even if Carton was making the reported $250k doesn't mean Boomer was making the same. Boomer had the much more recognizable name going into the pairing.

Also wouldn't be surprised if the new piaring was Boomer and Sims (Chris not Phil) He was afrequent fill in for Carton.

I agree with your premise , but they are more than co workers ...they've been referring to each other as outside of work best friends for years now ..this hurts Boomers credibility big time .

I dont feel bad for the guy at all but certainly do for his wife and kids. He just turned their lived upside down for no good reason. I actually used to like Carton when he was on the radio in NJ and at the start of his run on WFAN. Eventually he ran his course with me. I mean if you are going to do a sports show you should actually have to pay attention to the games themselves. Boomer does for the Rangers and NFL stuff but Craig doesnt do much but a few bits and pieces of Yankees games and the two local NFL teams. There is just no content there but I guess thats what most people want as they were a highly rated show. 

Cant see how anyone is surprised at the gambling. The way he spoke about gambling on the radio you would think he lived in a Vegas sportsbook.   It was way beyond the typical gambling stuff that is usually on sports talk which consists of picking NFL games and some season over/unders.  And hes such a fraud going so crazy over Madoff and the Mets when apparently that was just inspiration for him. 

This is certainly bad for WFAN. Who knows how he represented himself in these things and the WFAN celebrity I am sure added credibility. Now they have to worry about if anyone at the station knew about this, if he was skimming money from all the charity stuff they constantly let him plug, and finding a new co-host for the program at the same time Francesa is probably going out as well. Its awful publicity and they cant even really speak on it until they know more. They dont really have anyone in the pipeline as replacements and WFAN looks like its in as bad a shape as when Stern left FM or when Opie & Anthony got kicked off WNEW and that whole format tanked as soon as that happened.

This actually helps carton a little. Legally he's still in big trouble but ripping off a hedge fund looks better than ripping off average ticket buyers. Plus the hedge fund looks incompetent for not vetting Carson. Either way, I think his career in New York is done.

I think I listened to that show once or twice and he was insufferable.  I think he's a local Skip Bayless, trying really hard to irk the fans.  His career in radio should be over I'm guessing.  

Although I do think gambling addiction can be pretty devastating once you get hooked.

I guess I'm one of the few that really liked the show.  Always have been a Boomer fan, how,someone doesn't like him I'll never know. Anyway here's what I found shocking, Carton only made $250 k a year.  It has consistently been the number one rated morning drive show in the biggest media market so I don't get that.

     NOW who replaces Carton? That is the big question for WFAN moving forward. I hope it's another Jet fan, because we need someone to suffer with.

I don't know how anyone could possibly like that show, but to each his own, right?.  The number of times I'd tune in and literally listen to almost an hour of "sports" radio with no mention of sports made it a complete waste of time for sports fans.  When it was "sports" talk, it was an hour of unfunny shots at different teams and players.

250K is insanely generous for what he did.  I'd have guessed much less than that.

- we're a nation of laws and innocent until proven guilty, but the feds don't show up at your door at 3:45 in the morning unless they've got you dead to rights. Whatever he's been accused of, he did it and they can prove it.

- is it any surprise that Carton is a degenerate gambler and got in deep with the mob? You could have listened to the show for a day and figured that one out.

- there's no way to bring him back to WFAN. Is it really responsible to have him talking about point spreads and locks of the week after this?

- his wife and kids I really feel sorry for. I think he's got a couple of special needs kids and his wife didn't know she was marrying a criminal(I think). Their lives are about to drastically change and not for the better.

This whole situation really highlights the absolute hypocrisy of "sports talk radio".  Because if
this situation happened to an athlete WFAN would be covering it ALL DAY, EVERYDAY.  Bringing on
different analysts for their takes on the situation until you would vomit.  But now because it's
one of their own they shut up, really?  Thank God I don't listen anymore

It does seem low for a base , but after massive bonuses for ratings wins coupled with all the other stuff he does , I would think he's still pulling in well over a million a year salary .

I never ever listened to B and C in the mornings BECAUSE of Carton...he was absolutely unlistenable to me.  With that being said, you don't want to see anyone go to jail, ever.  Carton is a complete moron and fool and I am not surprised he got himself into this mess.  Glad I won't have to listen to him or come near him on the dial in the mornings ever again...that's the good news here.
