Looking for their first win of the season, New York came into the contest ranked 31st and 32nd in offense and defense, respectively. The team was trying to avoid starting the season 0-3, in a game which was the 103rd regular-season meeting between the two teams. THE GOOD The Jets’ defense pitched a shutout for most of the game. They held RB Jay Ajayi to 16 yards and the Miami offense to only 1 for 12 on third-down efficiency. WR Robby Anderson hauled in a 69-yard, second quarter touchdown from QB Josh McCown. Anderson led the team with 3 receptions for 95 yards. McCown was 11-14 for 198 yards with a QB rating of 142.6 in the first half and 18-23 for 249 yards overall. RB Bilal Powell scored on a 1-yard run. K Chandler Catanzaro split the uprights for 22- and 40-yard field goals. S Terrence Brooks intercepted a QB Jay Cutler pass and returned it for 13 yards. TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins was on the field for the first time this season and hauled in 4 passes for 31 yards. THE BAD This was the third game in a row in which the offense got off to a slow start. They had 19 yards rushing and 47 yards passing in the first 15:00. K Catanzaro missed a 45-yard field goal attempt. The offensive line gave up two sacks in the first quarter. THE UGLY The Jets had 7 penalties for 60 yards in the first half and 10 for 94 overall. RB Elijah McGuire had a fumble (which was recovered by Miami) in the fourth quarter.
