Patriots Oline and Front 7

I clicked on the Pats-Jets thread hoping to see a conversation about the upcoming game, but instead it was another debate about Watson or Adams which has been beyond beaten to death.

The team didnt play very well yesterday, but the truth is that while Cleveland is winless, they have a lot of talent in the trenches that proved to be a very difficult for our team.  Their O Line is one of the best in football and Garret had a monster game along with the rest of their front 7 stopping the Jets running game.

As bad as those matchups looked for us, we shouldnt have any of the same problems against New England.  Im not sure who will be the RB, aside from McGuire, but we should be able to run the ball against the Pats defense, there just isn't a lot of talent there.  The coaching advantage is obviously a huge issue, and the Pats have 10 days to prepare, but hopefully morton can get creative as McCown should have more time to throw then he did on Sunday or vs Jacksonville

Id like to see the offense use as much motion and bunched formations as possible, as the Pats have had communication issues in their secondary.

I know its Brady/Belichick, but this matchup is better for the Jets then some of the teams they have already beaten.

This is the game you need a rushing game on offense and a pass rush from your dline

You can't blitz Brady, and the Jets don't have the LBs to play coverage behind it anyway

Jets need ealy and Powell big time

It's going to be a dink and dunk athon on both sides with a handful of chunk plays deciding it

Jets also need another week of stellar kicking

NE has no dynamic/fast players in their front seven anymore.  Their DLine is filled with run
stuffing DT types and Hightower is their best LB and he doesn't have great range.  They were
exposed in the opener against KC and haven't improved since.  They beat TB because Folk forgot
how to kick FG's and Winston missed on a lot of throws particularly to Jackson deep.  The only
time they have front seven speed is when they bring McCourty into the box.  Spread them out and
force their LB's into covering our RB's & TE's in space.  If they then replace their LB's with
DB's we'll need to get physical and punish them with the running game.  Important players will
be Powell, McGuire, Seferian-Jenkins and Leggett

What do we know about Travis Cadet because he could wind up playing a big role on Sunday?  He seems like a shifty-type RB simply because he has more career receptions (102) then carries.

He was on the saints with Morton so he should know the offense, and Morton should know what his strengths and weaknesses are, so hopefully if he is pressed into meaningful action Morton can out him in position to be successful.

I agree we should be able to run more. We need some creative play calling to keep ne guessing, we need Ealy back and in Brady’s face, we need a loud home crowd, we need a few big catches, a little luck and who knows we may eeek out a win and witness the biggest nfl media meltdown ever

If the Jets D-line can knock Brady to the ground throughout the game, I'd say the Jets have a good shot at winning.

That formula hasnt been executed by many teams for 15 years....  seems simple but as much as I hate to say it, he is so effective at dumping the ball.

being a pussy has worked for him.

Formula to beat Brady and NE has never changed, keep him on his back and on the sidelines. That means we need a great running game to control the clock and a good pass rush. Kony Ealy needs to be healthy this week and contribute big league

I wouldn't be surprised if Ealy/Roberts/Burris are all ready to play Sunday. Jets were playing the Browns this week and while we aren't good enough to take any team lightly, it made sense to give these guys the week off to heal up for the Patriots where they will really be needed. We should know by Wednesday on all 3. If they can even get in a Limited Practice, they will be playing Sunday.

right, in an abstract way.  there's plenty of tape on the patsies and how they play the game.  there wasn't so much on cleveland with either kizer or hogan so it was tough for them to really scheme for their offense.  and they have some really good players beyond myles garrett on that team.

as for the patsies, their defense is relying on their offense to score a ton of points and it doesn't seem like they can capitalise on the other team mistakes as much as they could in the past.  brady is hampered by not having gronk and edelman but at the same time they'll get cook more involved. amendola is an edelman wannabe (that is punk).  hogan is a big target and skrine is going to have his hands full.

as for mccown, he'll have players to throw to but he needs to watch for blitzes from mccourty.

I was thinking the same thing regarding our injured players. Did Bowles look ahead as division games are ALWAYS the most important. You know Belichick sat Gronk for that reason vs Bucs. Hogan is good but slow, Amendola is the Edelman replacement & Cooks has been coming on. I hope we can go into this game with most guys ready to go. Great test for the safety trio Adams, Maye, Brooks, but they throw a ton to the RBs, something Davis & Lee have trouble with like that stupid screen to Duke yesterday.

Brady 10 days to prepare for a D Kevin Hogan just shredded.   And BB 10 days to prepare for Josh McCown.  And they're at home.  And this game actually means something the in the stands.

....and the Jets are going to win baby!!!!

:)

Travis Cadet is a pass catching RB not many highlights of him being a workhorse RB

He's basically a receiver and kick return specialist.  26 career carries.  102 receptions.  Which is a good thing.  Maybe he can take a few hand offs if they get desperate but the pass catching RB is nice to have vs. the Pats.

Time to play a perfect game.

Despite a weaker front seven and O-line than usual the Pats still have Brady and his impeccable ability to find his man in short order.

It sounds stupid obvious, but maintaining position is the biggest key to beating the Pats. Going for passes and giving Brady time when they had the lead is the reason is why Flacons lost for instance. Keep Mr.uggs on the sidelines at all costs.

That said we need Powell BAD for this one. Other than him I think a guy like Ardarius Stewart might be a very useful to take advantage of a slower front seven- this could be his breakout game so long as McCown can find him. I say this also because there isn't a lot of film on him and they aren't gonna see heavy use of him coming, they'll probably just focus on ASJ who is the other more known potential big threat between the numbers.

Morton's got his work cut out for him...

With 10 days to prepare, the odds are in their favor that the Patriots defense will fix whatever has been ailing them this year. I expect them to stuff the run and dare McCown to throw into small windows by applying blitzes and pressuring our OLine.

Expect nothing, just enjoy the game...I hope that they keep fighting till the end of the game no matter the score, play with pride.

I'm tempted to take the Patriots defense in my fantasy pool this week.

Hopefully OLB Josh Martin will also be ready to play this week.

Kon Easy as well.  Not only does he probably have a chip on his shoulder for being cut by the Pats but he's also been our best interior pass rusher which is the best way to get to Brady.

The Patriots are strong on the defensive edge.  They have one of the best rookie DEs in the league this year, and Trey Flowers who is pretty good.  Their DTs which were amongst the best in the league last year have been terrible this year and so they look to be the weak link.

Their LBs are strong against the rush, but are extremely slow and vulnerable to hbs and TEs in the passing game.  Look for ASJ to have a big game.

Their secondary is one of the most talented in the league but have been plagued by inconsistency and busts.  However they did shut down Brees and Tampa Bay, so its hard to know whats going to happen.

The way to beat them is matching up a hb vs one of their lbs, like KC did.  They have nobody on their team that can stop that, so they'll have to use one of their safeties which might open up Anderson
