Jets | Mangini meets with team officials

Mon, 16 Jan 2006 13:53:20 -0800

Updating a previous report, Mark Cannizzaro, of the New York Post, reports New England Patriots defensive coordinator Eric Mangini meet with New York Jets general manager Terry Bradway and assistant general manager Mike Tannenbaum about the Jets' vacant head coach position. The meetings took place outside of Boston and were reportedly heading back to New York. Mangini is seeking about $2.5 million per year to become the Jets' head coach, according to a source. Another source said that Mangini should receive $17 million over five years.

Let me get this straight. Mangini is seeking $2.5m per year which works out to $12.5m over 5 years. The article then says that Mangini should receive $17m over 5 years, an average of $3.4m per year  That Bradway is some tough negotiator. He is the only GM around that drives the price up when buying and down when selling! #-o

They should just let Tannenbaum handle this. He can add and subtract, rumor has it. Anyway it seems like this is how we do business now, our officials deal exclusively with their friends (see: Bradway/Herm and Peterson of K.C.). Tanny is supposedly Mangini's buddy so he'll probably just give him a load of cash and a fruit basket. Still, you have to wonder why the Jets are deal with personal friends when business should be the order of the day...could it be our FO can't swim the big fish when push comes to shove?
