Truth be told, Dungy should be canned anyway. He has proven with two different teams (good teams at that) that he just can't get the job done. IMO, if his son hadn't killed himself, he would probably be looking for a new job by the end of the week.

I agree with ALK, anyone else in the league and he would have been fired.

It's amazing with all the talent the Colts have had over the last 3 years that they never made it to the Super Bowl.

With the improved defense this year, that team was completely stacked this year.

That kind of roster comes along once in a blue moon.

just goes to show you that is often NOT the best team that does win the superbowl... just a lot of dumb luck... whether a kicker does not make a kick or does...

Dome teams are typically schizophrenic.

You made the excellent point earlier TX, that teams need to be physical this time of year.

Dome teams try to build for speed, and that usually eliminates their want for a physical game. When they get in teh playoffs, and someone smacks them in the mouth, they stand there stunned for a little bit. They don't react well.

If your franchise moves to buid a dome, shudder.

the Colts had everything in their favor this year-with home field set up and an improved defense from prior years. I think it shows though that you want to be playing your best at the end of the year- like Steelers were-every game was a playoff game for them to make the playoffs last 5 or so weeks

It didn't come down to that one kick. It never should have been that close to begin with. If the ref had made the right call, the game would have been decided long before that. The Colts just got flat out dominated by a physical team which is the same thing that happens to them every season in the playoffs.

Great point about dome teams Dierk, and so very true.

Physical toughness is the number one prerequisite for winning championships in the NFL.

I don't care how fast or quick a team is, but if they don't dominate physically on both sides of the football, they will fail, especially in January and February.

Look no farther then what the Pats did to the Rams in the 2001 Super Bowl and what the Steelers did to the Colts yesterday.

That is why the Panthers and Steelers both have an excellent chance of getting to the Super Bowl this year.

ah yes.. the steelers far out played the colts ... there were some bad calls .. and then if jerome hadnt fumbled that ball... well it wouldnt have come down to the kick..but it did.. and we have seen games come down to kicks in the past... jets and patsies... and not always does the "best" overall team win.

my point was ... the best team on sunday was the steelers...BUT before sunday the best team was the colts... and had vanderj made that kick there might have been a different outcome...

And if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all be some fat mother ****ers. The bottom line is, yes the score was close, but make no mistake. The Steelers handed the Colts their asses on a paper plate. If not for that one bs overturned INT by the ref, we wouldn't even be talking about the Bettis fumble. The fix was in but I don't think they expected Ben to tackle a freakin' CB in open field.

..My only disagreement with your statement is that they never had a good D till this year...IMO so I give him a little leeway on past years and You have to share some of that wealth with Manning. Granted he is a great QB..they created a monster when they let him do his own thing. I believe that he changes calls to much sometimes and creates a confusion of his own. And nobody there will tell him to slow down. And we all know all the evils of a team always fall on the HC regardless of anything. But losing his son Im sure has taken quite a toll on him. I have no idea how it feels to lose a child and wouldnt want to experience. Maybe he lost a feel for this game after that. Cause as a parent Im sure he blamed or blames himself in someway for his sons death. This break should be good for him and maybe he can make a clear decision after getting sometime to grieve properly. I think he was pretty good though...side note: can I get some biscuits and geravy shipped to me for my bday?..
