Bryan Cox - LB Coach?

I just called into Fox Sports Radio's JT The Brick with Bryan Cox...

He told me he HAS interviewed for the Jets job and is interested greatly.

He leaves Wednesday to Iraq to watch the Superbowl with the troops...And that he would give an answer on his return to the States sometime next week...He sounded happy and confident, take it for what it's worth.

Why the hell not? The guy traveled around the league during his years so he knows various systems and he was a very good linebacker in his day as a Bear, Dolphin and Jet. Even as a Patsie he had some good games.

The only reason I'd be surprised is Cox has openly blasted the Jets in the past, most notably Terry Bradway.

When I called in I told him 1st hand that i'm not here to suck up because i'm not a two-faced person, I say what I say and mean it...

I told him I was critical of him last season when he said the Jets had a soft schedule and wouldn't go far in the playoffs, I didn't like it and called him out on that last season...

His gripe though seemed to be with Herm Edwards, he didn't like what Herm did to Lewis and Jones, and I assume he didn't like that Herm let him go, so he has some bitterness.

I'd like the move because it'd bring some nastiness and attitude to the Jets LB core...I mean he'll walk into a great situation...

He'll have a Perennial Pro-Bowler in Vilma, he'd be getting back Eric Barton from IR and maybe just maybe he could get the full potential out of Victor Hobson...

I agree he'd be great. But well before he said the Jets were soft, he openly BLASTED the entire team, including ownership, FO, and coaching. Only 1/3 of the people he criticized are actually gone. I can't rmember when or where, but I am sure he openly called out Woody and Terry.

I'm not saying every player on the Jets defense has to be a Pro-Bowler. Some Jets fans wrote off Erik Coleman because he had a sophmore slump, some just absolutely HATE David Barrett. My point is you cannot have a pro-bowler in every position...

Hobson, as a 2nd rounder hasn't been bad nor great, he's been ok, solid if you will. Has shown flashes of being a very good linebacker, and sometimes has looked lost and out of place...

I'm not saying BCox has to make him a Pro-Bowler, but just get him to the level of being a good linebacker instead of just an OK one...

Cox's problem is that he didn't think he was done and Edwards thoguht he was. You can understand it; Cox was a great competitor and didn't want to think he was done. And Cox was right-he did have a little left in the tank.Edwards was busy marching around babbling about Cover 2 rather than just getting good football players, which is what Cox was.

Cox always gave his all, playing in the 2001 Lions game with a broken leg. Being passionate and a little hotheaded isn't the worst thing in the world. And off the field he was smart enough to get into other businesses like thoroughbred horses.

I've found him in his tv appearances to always be well-informed. And he was honest about things if he didn't like what he saw. If you get past the silly

stuff that happened on the field I thnk there may be the makings of a good coach here. I don't know if Cox will make great LB coach, but I'd give him a shot. Nobody is gonna dog it with him around.

On the radio, his rants on the Jets seemed to be aimed at Edwards, for cutting Lewis and Jones, quote "disrespecting them" and cutting Lewis himself, it was kinda funny though that he picked the Jets to win the Super Bowl this year, yikes:(.

Anyway, a few weeks ago he said the Jets made a great hire with Eric Mangini, someone Cox knows from his days as a Patriot, so POSSIBLY when he emerged as a candidate as LB coach, the biggest factor would be working for Mangini in my opinion...

That was you? I heard that on the way home from work, and was going to post it when I got in.

HAHA!! No way...I'm "The Raider Hater" on JT's show:thumbup:. I like JT's style of radio since I don't have WFAN in Tampa, although a few times a week I listen to Mike and Maddogg on the internet...

Yes I do, he goes there a few times a year and sits with us. He talks exactly how he talks on the radio, lotta yellin, hard to understand, but makes you laugh even though he's a Phish fan, the guy is good people.

Yeah, he's fun to hang out with. I see him once in a while at Bilmar Station, too.
