He was hitting the hole pretty hard and powerful... I always wondered why the steelers stopped using him, because in the games I watched, he always looked good... I guess they just liked Willie Parker more. I know Duce had a somewhat shakey pre-season this year, but If we could sign him for cheap, this might be a great move... There's a good chance he might still be the back he was in 2k4 after we brush some of the dust off.

CoachTsurfing
I don't think we should sign him either, but we do have a roster spot. Unless we signed someone to make up for dwight.
Sperm Edwards
Sign Staley? Why? Is there too few players on the bench? Not too many players - too many RB's on the bench. We definitely need another.

124
I used to love Duce.. but now I wouldn't want to touch him with a 10 foot pole. Houston & Washington are the 2 YOUNG guys who CAN carry the load for at least the remainder of this season.
Sperm Edwards
Or us sign Testarverde last year. Nah, signing him over a year after we did trumps that. It's as close to self-depricating as Tx gets. Soak it up.

James Hasty
We have two roster spots wasted by Blaylock and Barlow so we clearly have room for him if he has anything left in the tank.
meanandgreen
There is no doubt that if healthy, Duce could be our workhorse for a year or two BUT - if we let Duce start running we would certainly slow down the progress of Houston and Washington who are starting to look pretty darn good. Duce is done. The Steelers' bread and butter is their running game and no way would they have cut him unless they felt he could still be effective at least as a back-up to Willie Parker. Houston is nothing special and Leon Washington is a good 3rd down back. Jets still lack a true starting RB.

How is there "no doubt" about that? He was the most injury-prone RB this side of Buckhalter even in his youth. Suddenly at almost 32 years old it's "no doubt" he could be the workhorse RB he hasn't been since a time when Belichick was still our DC?
GREEN FIEND
It has been the youth of this team (Mangini, Schott, Brick, Mangold, Cotchery, Leon 'Birdman' Washingtin, B. Smith, Houston, Kerry Rhodes) that has been the reason for the turn around we're experiencing. Let the Jets build this foundation from the ground up through the draft and quit calling for other teams' left-overs.
124
The Duce is loose but isn't coming to New York. No way, no how. We already wasted a 4th round pick on Kevan Barlow (which I admit I thought would be a good move at the time) but Cedric Houston & Leon Washington are 2 young backs who can carry the load and there is no need to even consider looking at Staley. Let him end up back with Philadelphia who even though they won last night, still need a running game.
