Vincent Jackson?

Watching a segment now with a coach explaining the 40s to other WRs. Jackson is unmistakable because of his light skin and face.... kid is HUGE, much bigger than the other WRs.

Honestly, I've seen barely 30 seconds of the guy but I'm intrigued. Looked really smooth catching the ball and he has interesting size.

I'd almost guarantee he ends up at TE. Every team wants the new Tony Gonzalez/Gates. WHat's funny is that it's cyclical--teams will start responding to WR's being put at TE by drafting bigger LBers that won't be blocked by finesse guys. The trend toward small, fast OLB's will go away quickly.

I agree with TS and 124 ... I think some team will draft VJ with an open mind towards TE ... as 124 said, could be an Antonio Gates type TE if he can make the switch

Not discounting the possibility he can remain at WR either ... it's possible he can be a BIG Possession WR ... but he can be a BIGTIME PLAYMAKER at TE if he can make the switch?

Sounds like you want him in Room 213 of the Hyatt Regency.

Dude, this is my first full blown draft crush of the year (I've had baby crushes on Carlos Rogers and Justin Miller).

Last year I had crushes on Vince Wilfork and Triandos Luke....

This year it's Vincent Jackson

2004... 80 rec, 1382 yards, 17.3 ypc, 11 TDs

2003... 66 rec, 1462 yards, 22.2 ypc, 21 TDs

The guy was VERY productive, albeit in 1-AA, reportedly had pretty good senior bowl practices, looked GREAT in the combine drills to my untrained eye, and at 6-5, 241 with a 4.55 40 is the same size height as Mike Williams, but bigger, heavier, and faster.

Yeah, what room was that again?

The true JI draft guru didn't seem to like him when he saw in person in Mobile ~wink~ ~wink~

Basically, that was consisitent with the Net scribes that panned him big time at the Senior Bowl.

According to another JI poster, he ran a 4.5 at the combine today, which would suprise me--I bet his official time will be about 4.6.

Something about this cat, makes me wonder if he's for real?

Just a gut feeling...Seems like one of these Stanford type TE's that the media falls in love with (because he's talkative, polite, ect.), but falls between the cracks as a tweener (Teyo Johnson anyone?).

They both look the part in the Airport, but in games?

Honestly, I don't know how he projects, but he was woeful at the Senior Bowl "on the field", according to legit sources...so we'll see.

Did some ask about Scouts Inc?

NORTHERN COLORADO

Comments:Strengths:

Is a developmental small-school prospect with exceptional size and very good top-end speed for his size. Has good athletic ability and body control. Has been extremely productive at his level. Has long arms and adequate leaping ability. Is a huge threat on vertical routes and fade routes inside the red-zone. Will out-muscle and out-reach most DB's when the ball is in the air. His hands are very reliable and he has developed excellent overall ball skills. Does a fine job of adjusting to the ball in the air and also will make a lot of plays in traffic. Gives a decent effort as a blocker and has the size/strength to excel in that area in the NFL if his technique and willingness improve.

Weaknesses: Is a long-strider who lacks great initial burst. Takes too long to build up speed. Doesn't have great burst or sharp cutting ability. Has gotten away with natural tools at small school level but needs to improve overall route running skills. Needs to do a better job of getting in and out of his breaks without gearing down. Can run by DB's at his level but doesn't have the speed to do the same in the NFL. Was very productive returning punts in college but lacks the speed and elusiveness of a starter in that capacity in the NFL.

Bottom line: Jackson is a small-school prospect with exceptional size, good speed for his size, and impressive production at the ? level. He has been a fulltime starter since his sophomore season, had 21 touchdowns as a junior and has had maintained an outstanding yards-per-catch average throughout his career. Jackson also has some versatility as a return specialist. There are obvious concerns about him transitioning to the NFL. However, while he will need time to improve his overall technique and feel as a route runner, Jackson has the physical tools to make the jump. If Jackson is able to showcase his skills against better competition in a post-season all-star game and if he runs in the 4.5's during his workouts, he could quickly rise up the charts and wind up coming off the board in the third/fourth round range.

If we're talking about the same draft guru, let's just say he should stick to politics.
