Well it has happened... Arod stayed lit on fire and the Rocket added enough of a spark for this Yankees team to make a run... they are getting close to striking distance of the Sox....

How long until they are fighting for 1st place again?

I say it will happen by July.

Awesome dude.

The $200 million Yankees swept the $21 million Pirates at Yankee Stadium.

BTW: The Red Sox took 2 out of 3 on the road.

We'll see what happens when you play them. Oh and Matsuzaka gave up 2 runs in 6 innings. Clemens gave up 3 runs in 6 innings to the lowly Pirates. Let's call a spade a spade.

I think , if I recall correctly....It was Clemen's first MLB outing all year.

I remember a time when the Yankees were 5.5 games back and Clemens came on tv and said he was coming back and Suzyn Waldman came in her granny panties and then two weeks later they were 12.5 games back and in last place. Again. I'll believe the Yanks are back when the win some series against .500+ teams.

Am I mistaken or didn't the Yankees start this current run of good play by taking 2 of 3 from the Sox at Fenway? Funny how many of the Sox fans have forgotten to include that minor detail in a discussion that revolves around the Yankees improved play.

Took two of three from the Sox at Fenway...consider yourself a believer...welcome aboard.

The Yankees, no matter the year or positioning, always get up and play up to the Red Sox. They don't see each other until August. We'll see how the Yankees play against other .500+ teams. Until then, they're still 9.5 back to a team with a better rotation and bullpen. And we all know what pitching wins.

Great perspective...care to list all of the teams over .500 that the Yankees can beat and it won't matter for whatever arbitrary reason fans choose to throw out there. Just so I don't waste my time pointing out things they've done immediately after others say they haven't done it yet. Thanks.

Care to point out a series against a .500 team that the Yankees won more games than they lost aside from Boston? Oh thats right. You have to go back to April against Cleveland to do that.

lets see...I say it won't.

The Sox are too good for the Yankmes to come all the way back..sure they made up 4 or 5 games..hmmm they were playing the damn PIRATES!

When it switches from interleague back to the AL play there screwed so....if there gonna make there move its now or never!

Either way you spin it, making up 5 games in 10 days is impressive. So is winning 6 straight and so is winning 9 out of 11.

Actually the $ 189,639,045 Yankees swept the $ 38,537,833 Pirates.

And the $ 143,026,214 Red Sox won 2 of 3 vs the $ 52,067,546 ...

Amazing feat by the poor red Sox...

I'd ask you to show me where I said that but you won't be able to because I never did. I'm taking facts and statements made during this discussion as the basis for my comments. The thread is talking about the improved play of the Yankees which began in Boston against a team over .500. That's when things started going right. You said you would believe they were back when they beat a team over .500. I showed you an example of them having done that in the past week and a half and like JetNations very own Marty Mcfly, you began to spin it as "yeah but they always step up against the sox" and now you're trying to bring the discussion in to a different direction. You made a statement and it took all of two seconds to turn it on it's head. Stick with your story or just admit the fact that you hate the Yankees so much that you will not give credit where it's due.

I said I'd believe that Yankees were for real when they started taking series from +.500 teams, aside from the Red Sox, which they haven't done since April. So spin that any way you want, but it's not a different direction at all. It's the same direction. I don't know where I went off the beaten path, just by taking the Sox out of the equation it completely invalidates your argument. My bad.

Haha. When the Yanks take 5 of 6 from the D-Backs and Mets, you will start saying "+.500 teams in the AL!!!!"

I agree .80 there run has been impressive...but if there gonna pull off anything..its while there in interleague play.

The yankees are 4-2 in interlaeegue

Mets are 3-3

Atl is 1-2

Sox are 4-2

Just sayin'....

If you look at interleague records over the past two seasons it's clear that the AL has the better teams as a whole. The NL has some solid clubs but I think the AL has a riddiculous winning percentage over the NL.

I don't mean to repeat AFJF, but they also gained ground on the Sox when they took 2 of 3 from them, not to mention when they took 3 of 4 from the White Sox. I'm hoping you're just intentionally ignoring that in the hopes that the rest of us will somehow forget.

If you are a GM in the AL you build your team completely different than a NL one. That is just the way it is with the DH, less double switches etc.

Every time the Yanks get off to a bad start and appear to be headed for another divisonal round exit (at best), we hear about how tough the Jays-Rays and Orioles are.

Nice run by the Yankees, albeit against lowly competition (Pirates) but they have been playing better ball as of late. They won that series against the Red Sox and played well against the White Sox. I still think it'll be Red-Sox - Mets World Series however. Buckner Part II?
