Associated Press

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers offensive lineman Chris Terry appeared in court Thursday on a charge of assaulting his wife and was freed on $2,500 bond.

Terry was arrested Wednesday evening after his wife, NyQuell Jackson-Terry, 29, told police he pushed her into a wall during an argument at their home in south Charlotte.

Jackson-Terry was granted a temporary restraining order against her husband by Mecklenburg District Judge Nate Proctor. In documents filed for that order, Jackson-Terry said her husband also has head-butted her, causing a lump on her forehead, and pushed her face into a pillow while their children watched.

Terry appeared in Mecklenburg District Court on Thursday after spending the night in the county's central jail. His lawyer, Chris Fialko, declined to comment on the case and the team did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

"We are investigating the situation and do not know all of the details at this time,'' Panthers general managear Marty Hurney said. "Obviously, issues of this nature are given close attention.''

The Panthers are to open training camp Friday in Spartanburg, S.C.

Terry, a second-round pick out of Georgia in 1999, has started all but one game in his three seasons with the team. The Panthers list the Jacksonville, Fla., native at 6-foot-5, 295 pounds.

Terry played last season at right tackle, helping the Panthers set a franchise record for fewest quarterback sacks allowed, with 31.

According to the team Web site, Jackson and his wife have a 3-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son.

Calling out GreenMachine !!!!! Please make a team photo with all the players in striped uniforms.

That would be pretty good. Maybe we could get a nice link of nfl.com for all of our hard work!

I guess I missed the boat on this one. Had I known it was so popular we could have put pictures on it and slapped it on the front page.

Nice to know people are copying off of us though.
