Tiger is a step above his fellow athletes, but he faces a steep climb to catch up to Oprah.Woods sits atop the magazine's lists of richest athletes, having earned $87 million in compensation and endorsements from June 2004 through June 2005. He also garnered the top ranking on Forbes' list combining earnings and other celebrity factors, such as Google hits and magazine covers.

Formula One driver Michael Schumacher was second on the athletes' earnings list with $60 million, followed by Oscar De La Hoya, third with $38 million.

As for pure "star power," Shaquille O'Neal and Lance Armstrong finished second and third, respectively, to Tiger in the rankings.

Despite his place of distinction among the athletes listings, Tiger is a distant second to Oprah Winfrey on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list of famous people who make the most money and attract the most attention. Winfrey earned an estimated $225 million in the past year to capture the crown as most powerful celebrity, according to the magazine.
