Buying a car

Jetlag

What ever you don't ever, ever, ever buy a Hyundai.

Otherwise you'll regret it every single day that you own it.

Hyundais are the biggest pieces of junk out there.

I dont agree with that. I also had an Elantra that I ran to 180k before anything major went. The body and engine are great on these Korean vehicles. Its the interior that falls appart.

I'm looking into cars right now. My current needs are just an A/T sedan that is reliable and could make a 650 mile trip (Cincinnati to NY) without troubles. Right now I REALLY like the Mazda 3 although without a good finance program might be a bit out of my range. Also I've been looking at the Chevy Cobalt. Used cars are certainly not out of the question and I have researched Mazda 626 (1997 - 2003) and ofcourse the typical Honda's.

Anyone have any advice or input on car searching or these particular cars?

my only advice jetlag is that if you can afford any new car, get the cheap new car over ANY used. Not that used is bad but when it smells new and youve got a warranty for the next fouryears its the best

Pick up a Nissan Frontier - I just got a 98 with 99k for 3 grand on Ebay. Its a 4x4 as well. These things average about 300k or more before they die. Great condition and frosty AC. I had a 92 nissan pickup (hard body - not called frontier yet) that I took to 280k. My nephew is stil riding it and it is way past 300k. Brakes and oil change is all I have done to this thing. Go Japanese but stay away from the Mazda's.

are you also retarded in any way? if you got 280k out of a car then you are one of the rarest retards out there.

you cant expect 300k from any car unless you like to live with constant problems.

if you buy a new car and get 150k comfortable miles with no repairs then you are lucky

300k im still laughing at you. even mercedes diesels need work at that much

this guy isnt that stupid, but he still is a little stupid. cherokee is a nice ride, but it drinks gas like a porno star drinks sperm. 30 of gas every 4 days seem fun?

f that. ive got a liberty and i dont drive it that much due to this

I also drive a 98 Nissan Frontier 4x4 and it's a great l'il truck! I've got 91,000 miles on it and I plan on driving it for a few hundred... thousand more! The body will rot before the drive train fails. :D

I religiously get oil changes and regular maintenance.

A PT cruiser is just a glorified Neon! Same frame or whatever they use with those things. Stay far, far away from 'em! 8)

I got a Pontiac G6 earlier this summer. Corners like a dream. Got a good deal on it too, a V6 that ended up cheaper than a slew of 4 cylinders. Screw fuel mileage if you can't drive up a hill without putting the gas on the mat.

You know what I find funny? TomShane. More specifically TomShane giving advice on reliable cars.

I have driven to Rochester for work many times. It should take a little over 5 hours from Manhattan to Rochester.

Yet everytime he talks about making the journey he complains about a 9 hour train ride. Wow Tom, that car of yours sounds real reliable. So reliable that you spend double the amount of time on a train.

Yeah everyone, listen to what he has to say!

Highway miles are much less damaging to a vehicle than the stop and go driving done within a city. Toyotas and Nissan trucks frequently last for a few hundred thousand miles if properly maintained. Rust usually takes its toll here in the Northeast before the engine fails.

My Nissan is a five speed standard transmission so I have that much less crap to deal with as opposed to an automatic with the cooling lines, automatic fluid and filter, blah, blah ,blah....I'm not at all joking,I plan on getting at least two hundred thousand outta this truck.`
