Sounds like it was written by some SUNY grad-school attending faux intellectual. He disputes bad arguments with worse arguments but puts pretty wrapping paper around it. Sucks.

you wrote it?

Again, circa 2002 I thought Pennington was "Tom Brady only better".

After 2003 I thought he was "not as good as Brady... for now."

After 2004 CP is "The Tom Brady that never happened, and here's why...."

Here's why....

1) Arm strength

2) Injuries/durability

3) "It". If "It" were a Madden rating, Pennington would be a 76, and Brady would be a 540. See their respective playoff games against the Raiders....

Other than that though he compares moderately well...

I agree with you RS to a point.

I know his arm strength is not the greatest, but neither is Brady's. Using Brady as an example, he should be able to get better. Which begs the question why hasn't he? Injuroes? Maybe. Lack of coaching? Maybe. Lack of ability? I do not think so, but he has yet to show the ability to get better.

I think in 15-20 years, Jets fans might look back on Chad how most Patriots fans look back on Drew. At the time, he was a player with ability never seen before. However, when looked upon after his departure, you wonder what mnighht have been if he seemed to try a little harder.

As much as the Pats contingent would like to bury Chad, the kid has ability. He had a monster season then got into the injuries, which leads me to believe that Chad is a high caliber player WHEN HEALTHY. But I'll agree that if Chad misses 45 seconds this season with ANYTHING, I'm prepared to move on. I'm tired of waiting for him to sty healthy and put it all together. He's on as hot a hot seat as Herm is, no question.

Fantastic points as always PFSIKH.

I love the Bledsoe comparison, it's an unusual one (since they're diametrically different QBs), but definitely apt in the way you use it.

Both QBs had the ability to be GREAT, and they SHOULD have been/should be GREAT... but.... but...

On the arm strength thing, it wasn't such an issue in 2002 because the gap in 2002 was nowhere near what it is today.... that's been a widening gap.

Pennington has show many times he can laser in a pass between defenders as good as any.

Sometimes I think he gets too, I don't have a word for it, he just trys to be too perfect, and he trys to throw perfect touch passes to WRs across the middle that are being shadowed by corners/safetys and/or linebackers, instead of just zipping in the pass. I don't know if he is scared to throw hard or too tentitive but throwing softys over the middle wont always work.

Remember the 1st pittsburgh game last year where he threw a softy over the middle of the field and got picked off.

But remember against jacksonville in 2003 when he shot a lazer right between 2 defenders at the goaline to anthony becht for a TD?

Now we have a great offensive coordinator AND we also have a QB coach to work with Penny. Not to mention his favorite target is baaaaaaack.

I think we'll see Pennington light up scoreboards, fire up the teammates and bring joy to the fans of the NY Jets!

Detroit better get ready. The J E T S JETS JETS JETS ARE COMING!!!!!! 8)

Yo barton, please provide the video link to back up that statement.

You need to slow down on the breast milk.

I think it was on the jets 2003 year in review, done by espn. They aired it last year, and they showed that pass. It was in jets stadium I think, because when becht caught it he was on the ground and it him him right in his chest, the crowd wasn't sure he caught it, but he got up and pumped his fists and the crowd went nuts.

barton, let's go point by point.

#1: You make the claim that PennyBoy throws "lasers" and you site exactly ONE pass in his career.?

#2: No such place as "Jets Stadium". If you really think there is, take a limo ride around Florida and I'm sure you'll feel much better.

I think you are onto something here and not the laser throwing thing.

It looks like Chad tries to throw the perfect catchable pass everytime he throws the ball. Granted on 99% of the passes he dumps off to the backs that is perfect, but when he needs to gun it, he does not.

I remember the last game againsty the Patriots in 2003 when he threw the 5 picks. At least two of them Bruschi and McGinest's picks, it looked like they just jumped the passing lane and picked off the pass. If it was Farve throwing at most it would have been a deflected pass, but with Penny's soft touch passes it was a pick.

if chad's arm is ok he will have a monster season. the 'noodle-arm' nonsense is overrated. we have yet to see a healthy chad for a full season. durability and arm-strength are 2 seperate issues. if his arm is 100% (which has yet to be seen) he will be in the pro bowl.
