2008 NFL Draft Thread

Good idea. But we're not really strict with keeping all draft stuff in one thread. Discussions about two (or 10) different prospects will mesh into each other & kill discussion about all but the most recent one. Feel free to add what Jets/draft content you like in this thread or any others.

Not to kiss your a$$ or anything, but that's why I love this board. Here's to a great draft and great free agency. Go Jets!!!!!

Right now I'd love to see us get Chris Long but it looks unlikely.

Trading down wouldn't be a bad option at all IMO and I think there is good depth at OLB, a position we really need to address. I want to see us draft defence and really build up the front 7 with this draft.

Chris Long would be my first choice too. The Rams are sitting at 2 and their fans want nothing but Long. If he's picked by the Dolphins (which they seem to think is 50-50) they want to trade down.

If Dorsey is there at six do we take him?

I do not want to go OL there. Either a playmaker on D or a playmaker on O. This team is devoid of playmakers. Is Chris Long a legit OLB/passrusher at the NFL level?

? I'm talking Chris Long. I want Chris Long. Not sure I get the whole playmaker thing, but what I've seen/read about Long I like him. My question was about Dorsey who is also D line. Do you think he's a playmaker?

Personally I wouldn't. I think he'd struggle in a 3-4 defence. He's also pretty injury prone.

And how about one of the nfl's worst offenses? what do you suggest we do with that?

I was hoping we would pick some quality O-lineman in FA. Maybe Andrews or even Faneca, we need to address this position as much as any, I'd also consider using later (maybe 2nd/3rd rounder) pick on an O-lineman.

A 3rd WR who can stretch the field must be added too, D.J. Hackett or Byrant Johnson could be options in free agency or we could look at someone like Limas Sweed in the draft.

My sentiments exactly. If Chris Long is there then I think he's a no brainer for the Jets. Otherwise, I think they'd be best off trading down and getting an OLB like Groves or Rivers (I dont know if he'd play ILB or OLB but either way he's really good) in addition to another good pick. I'd rather have a "lesser" prospect than Gholston if it means having the chance to draft another starter on the lines or a third WR or another CB.

I can see Baltimore wanting to leapfrog NE if Ryan is there, and I can see Chicago trying to get ahead of NE too, if the right QB is there.

This upcoming NFL draft is going to be very interesting while also being very, very, very important for our team. While others may disagree, I feel that this draft is extremely deep in the positions in which we need to desperately upgrade at. Positions such as OLB, T, G, WR, and the whole DL are positions I feel we need to upgrade at and inject some talent into it. Luckily there are a lot of talented players out there which fit our 3-4 defense and I feel can and will contribute to the team.

With that said, there are many ways this team can go about the draft. While everyone thinks that, in no specific order, Chris Long, Jake Long, Glen Dorsey, Sedrick Ellis, and D. McFadden are all gone by the time our pick comes around the logically pick there is V. Gholston, the OLB and pass-rushing specialist from Ohio State. BUT when does anything in the draft go as fans think it would? The answer.... NEVER. What if one of the top QBs really really impress in the combine and a team like the Falcons decides to go with a Matt Ryan or a Brian Brohm or even an Andre Woodson?????

If the above does happen where one of these QBs go in the top 5 we are going to be staring at possibly a J. Long or a S. Ellis or a D. McFadden. Now I think there is a VERY good chance that we'll be staring at D. McFadden come the 6th pick in which I personally think we should snatch him up and draft an OLB in the second where there would still be plenty of talented ones available. In the 3rd round we can address the tackle position in which there will also be a lot of talent still available. In the 4th round we can either address the defensive line or the wide out position based on who's available. Now I'm basing all this on the assumption that we take care of the LG position in Free Agency which I feel is a MUST.

With that said, I could go on for longer, but I don't want to lose readers with the lengthy post, but that's what I feel could and will happen come draft day. One of those QBs will sneak into the top 5 and it's going to change everything.

Thanks for reading and feedback and opinions are always welcome.

I actually like hardy... big wr..6-5

Ypu are absolutely right... that seems to happen every year right after the combine... Matt ryan is most likely that guy... Falcons and Miami bound?

Btw heres an interesting senerio for anyone that would like mcfadden on our team likeme..

The raiders and falcons still have to flip for that pick..

If the raiders win that pick this is how the top 6 might shake out...

1 Miami Glenn Dorsey

2 Rams Jake Long

3. Raiders Howie longs boy.. ex raider and would love to have chris long

4.Falcons Matt ryan need a qb..pretty obvious

5. Cheifs mcfadden? Nope.. they dont need him... Sedrick ellis

6. Jets Mcfadden

Glenn Dorsey is great. But, given the choice I think Tuna goes for Chris Long. Still, the end result might be the same. Oakland lost Sapp and has a great opportunity to replace him with an extremely highly regarded player, either Dorsey or Sed Ellis. The Rams might take Long, or more likely one of the DTs. OAk takes the other. ATL may take Ryan. The Chiefs take Jake Long. Jets can have McFadden.

Just the Jets luck.

Have the 6th pick in the draft, and it is a year that the value in the draft starts around 15. Also the few value picks early, Chris Long, I'm not sure fit the Jets system.

I know he played in a 3-4 at Virginia, but that is not the NFL. The Jet D line is small. Same problem with Dorsey and Ellis. I just wouldn't take a RB at #6. This draft is rich in RB's and I'm not even sure McFadden is the best NFL RB in the draft.

Gholson is a reach, and didn't impress me the 2 times I saw him play.

Trade down? They will need a partner for that. Most GM's in the NFL aren't stupid. They see the same problems in the front end of the draft that message board guru's see. Unless they get real lucky, I don't think they will find anyone to trade with.........For draft picks at least.

This FO's has shown a lot of creativity on draft day.

How about this? It's unusual, but possible.

Find a team that has either a stud NT, or pass rusher, for what ever reason, they want to move. Could be cap, personality, or the guy just wants a change of teams.

Trade him for #6.

You get a proven player, who hopefully is still young, at a position of need. Instead of a reach and a prayer.

Can't think of any real players out there that fit the mold, but if I look I'll bet I can find several.

Seems like the best option, unless someone wants to trade up with us.

I agree. I can't see Jake Long going 2nd. Doubt the Rams will take him with that pick. More likely he goes to KC.

I say trade down and Get Quinton Groves and Pat Sims in the first

Guys of we don't get Vernon two things are going to happen

1. We will miss out on the best outside LB in the draft and two the Patriots will take him

My point is I want someone who can make big plays. Whether it be a sack, an INT, or catch a bomb, or take it to the house on the ground. There does not appear to be a big time receiver for the 6 slot. Is Long quick enough to be a big time pass rusher at OLB? Will he be a hybrid, or will he be a straight end. If he is just a 3-4 end, I think he gets buried.

To be honest I have no problem if the Jets were to pick D. McFadden SO LONG as the offensive line problem is taken care of by us signing a bigname LG and the RT position is taken care of via the draft. I think that line with D. McFadden running behind it will be AWESOME! Can't wait for the draft...

That would be nice, but it all depends on the NT we get for that 6th and he's going to have to be good. I, personally, don't see it happening. I'm actually a big fan of Pouha and I liked what I saw out of him towards the end of the season.

I have plenty of faith that our FO will not let us down especially considering the two bonafide studs we drafted last year. This team really isn't far away though guys. With the money we have to spend in FA and the way this FO drafts if we can make the right moves and draft the right players I see no reason why we aren't back in the playoffs.

Oh yeah, the guy would have to be very good. I'm not just wanting to give the 6th pick away. I also liked Pouha, and your right he did play pretty good football at the end of the season, so did Mosley.

I'm talking about an impact player, maybe somebody who gets franchised, and just doesn't want to be there.

Actually I would perfer an impact OLB pass rusher type,

Just a thought. I just don't like the Jets options at 6, and think they are going to have a hard time trading down.

Over pays are what kills a teams cap down the road.

I am so sick of people saying trade down? They are either trying to sound really smart or god know what else...

Yeah Keep buying raffle tickets.... thats what it equates too...

Yes, you are right. Its impossible to get good players beyond the top 10 in the draft.

Yep,

Never been a top 5 bust.

Has anyone seen D-Rob or Blair Thomas lately?

Not saying that,.... but the idea that you just trade down and get more raffle tickets basically is retarded... you have a stud there.. you grab him.. why try and take more shots later on in the draft and try and hope to find a top 10 talent rather then just grab one..

btw add Dbrick that top 5 bust list

I would love to take Dallas' two first rounders I think that would be the only exceptable trade
