Ty Law and the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed in principle pending Law pass a physical and is able to prove he will be ready September 11, 2005 for opening day, according to Kansas City's 610 Sports reporter Rhonda Moss. Law's agent and the Chiefs are speaking daily, and are very close in terms of dollars.

Vermeil threw Carl Peterson over the barrel earlier this off-season by telling anyone who would listen that this is his last year coaching. Every agent with a defensive player as a client flocked to KC to rob that franchise blind. Between Kendrell Bell and Ty Law they have two HUGE, expensive question marks now that don't really make them any more of a contender than they were at the end of last season.

It appears from all accounts that Kansas City is putting on the full court press and the team hopes to work out a contract for the veteran cornerback over the next couple of weeks provided Law can pass a team physical.

Though money is at the heart of the talks, Law must show the Chiefs that he's healthy enough to practice and eventually play at a level that will warrant a significant pay check. We've learned that the Chiefs will bring him in for a workout in short order once he's received clearance from his doctors that he can go through a rigorous workout and prove to team officials that his surgically repaired foot can withstand the physical requirements to be ready to start the season on September 11th against the New York Jets. Further the Chiefs have received solid confirmation from his representatives that he has a strong desire to play for the Chiefs and that he is comfortable playing the style of defense that Gunther Cunningham plans on running in 2005.

The Chiefs are in this position because of the four game suspension to cornerback Eric Warfield. Law if he's healthy would start opposite Patrick Surtain, who was obtained in a pre-drafty day trade with the Miami Dolphins last April.

Two weeks ago Kansas City signed Ashley Ambrose but he was brought in to battle Dexter McCleon for the nickel job. But we

If you think the additions KC has added hasn't made their defense better then they were @ the end of the season you need to have your head examined.

good find, Tx. Our hopes are still barely alive.

If true, I wonder how the Jets $6 mil offer was structured.

Certainly, that would not be his annual salary.

And you're right Tabor, until Law actually passes his physical and SIGNS a contract with the Chiefs, the Jets are still in the mix.

Patrick Surtain and Ty Law as starting CB's and you don't think that defense is better than last year?

Because their offense is so explosive, the Chiefs do not need a top 10 defense to be a serious threat in the AFC. All they need to do is be a middle-of-the-road defense and not on the bottom.

Very dumb post Smizz. #-o

It would be nice to see Law pull an Antoine Winfield.

The problem with that defense is not necessarily the talent level, but the schemes and the fact that the offense doesn't hold the ball to give them a rest. Signing veteran players to run in that track meet does not make them appreciably better.

And Tex, excellent find. Interesting that the Jets are willing to throw $6 mil at Law. What it tells me is that the Jets clearly know that this is THE year. There is no 2006 season for the Jets organization right now which is BEAUTIFUL.
