A day in the life of the Jets

By Kara Yorio - SportingNews

Coach Herm Edwards has carefully planned the Jets' training camp. The length and difficulty of practice days vary, and no schedule is set in stone, but early in camp -- before injuries start piling up -- the days should go about as planned. This is the actual schedule as typed by Edwards for Saturday, July 30, the second day of team practices and the first in pads.

8:45 a.m.) Not every practice is in full pads. Some are in shells (helmets, shoulder pads and shorts) or spiders (helmets, lighter shoulder pads and shorts). Edwards wants to push players and work them hard but not in such a way that would cause injury.

(9:27 and 9:37 a.m.) Each period is run quickly. Edwards wants players to think fast, as in game situations. The scoreboard clock is set for each period, and a staff member blows a horn with 2 minutes left, then again when the period is over -- if he gets the OK from Edwards. If a group isn't finished running the allotted number of plays, Edwards delays the horn and practice is extended.

(10:38 a.m.) Veterans are cheerleaders here because rookies don't get enough reps otherwise. Rookie-only drills are not scheduled in every practice.

(12:15 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.) Some quick coaching gets done during practice as players return to the huddle to run the next play. But after reviewing practice video, position coaches provide detailed instruction in off-field meetings.

(3:57 p.m.) Players run through position-specific drills such as footwork reps for defensive backs and long toss for quarterbacks.

(4:42 p.m.) Players can get water at any time during practice, but everyone has a drink and quick break during the designated water times.

10:15 p.m.) Chicken tenders, wings, pizza, cold cuts, yogurt, ice cream and fresh fruit are among the available snacks, which are color-coded by calorie and fat into three levels.

(10:30 p.m.) The injury report is the most important part of the meeting because injuries can alter the next day's practice schedule.

(11 p.m.) Each night there are two coaches and one trainer on bed-check duty.

Yea, I'm sure Hermy can handle all those precise schedules and timing of all those activities in one day.

that is exactly what herm brings to the table - preparation, organization, and discipline. it is not an acciden that the jets are the least penalized team year in and year out.

Yea, all those 12-men/10-men on the field situations and the Jets fine execution in crunch time.

Total discipline, preparation and organization.

Well done Hermy.

Herm's schedule:

8 AM: wake up, hit snooze on alarm, fall back asleep

10 AM: finally get up out of bed, scratch ass, call Donnie Henderson to tell him he's taking the day off and that, like always, Henderson is in charge

11 AM: watch some cartoons, eat some home-made waffles

1 PM: interview with CBS

2 PM: interview with ESPN

4 PM: show up to camp in pajamas, pat Curtis Martin on the ass, saying "how many carries you want against KC, Curtis?"

5 PM: head home after a hard days work

6 PM: continue work on sequel to his book "You Play to Win the Game...except when Paul Hackett and Doug Brien loses it for you"

8 PM: Sex with wife (she fakes, like always)

10 PM: sleep

That is so terrible on so many levels...and you know that he eats Fruity Pebbles for breakfast, not waffles.
