Terrell Owens -another soap opera saga

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - The war of words between the Philadelphia Eagles and Terrell Owens continued on Thursday, with the wide receiver calling for the team to possibly trade or release him if he doesn't have his contract reworked.

Owens, who is one season into a seven-year, $49 million contract, hired NFL super agent Drew Rosenhaus in the offseason to renegotiate the pact with the Eagles. The team hasn't budged though, and with training camp opening August 1, Owens not being with the Eagles is an increasing possibility.

"I don't really have to play for the Eagles," Owens told Comcast Sports Southeast. "I can go play for any other team and still be productive."

Owens made his comments after Eagles president Joe Banner took a shot at the wide receiver and his agent.

"If we were dealing with somebody who was looking at this logically and was going to come to a common-sense conclusion, you'd say [he'll report to camp on time]," Banner told the Philadelphia Daily News. "But you're dealing with two people here who, frankly, don't think in common-sense terms.

"Anything can happen. They're not going to necessarily do what makes sense."

The Daily News reported Owens would be fined between $9,400 to $9,600 a day for each day he stays away from training camp. The newspaper also cited a source within the NFL Players Association saying if Owens misses even the first day of training camp, the Eagles would have the right to reclaim about $1.87 million of the $2.25 million signing bonus they gave him last year when he was traded to the team.

"If he feels that way, then get rid of me," Owens said regarding Banner's statement. "I have no gripes, nothing, no ill feeling towards any of the players out there on that team. This is business. They know how business is conducted and I've told them, time-and-time, what I'm doing is for my family."

"If we're problems, I feel we can be adults about it," Owens added. "Trade me. Release me. We can just part ways like adults. If I've got to come there it's not going to be a good situation. I just want something to be rectified and we can just move on."

Despite breaking his right leg during the regular season, Owens played in the Super Bowl, as the Eagles lost to New England. He caught 77 passes for 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns.

"If Joe Banner, who made that statement, can give Drew Rosenhaus the permission to seek a trade, who knows, Atlanta might be on the list of people I could play for," Owens said.

However, judging from what Atlanta owner Arthur Blank has said in the past, don't expect Owens to join the Falcons.

"I think it's a mistake if Philadelphia gives in," Blank told Sporting New Radio in June regarding Owens' contract.

The 31-year-old Owens played his first eight seasons in the NFL for San Francisco, but then got into a contract squabble with the 49ers and was traded to the Eagles in a complex deal.

Someone should ask this moron if he would have renegotiated downward if he had a crap season last year.

As I recall, no one held a gun to his head last year. Honor your contract, then get what you can.

I hope the Eagles suspend him without pay for the entire season.

i might be the only person in the world that sides with TO on this issue.

Looking at the salaries in the contract (9 mil next year?) The Eagles were absolutely planning to cut TO after this season, when he's due to make 3 M. He called them out on it and here we are. Money is important but I think what's more important to TO is the long term committment that he won't have to move around the nation every year. Obviously that's not a luxury many players can afford but a guy like TO who's good for 1300 yards per year - guarunteed - should have a place he can call his home. Also I'm not buying the age issue - as a big WR he probably has many years of production left in him. big Wr don't rely on speed to the extent that when they lose a step they are done. Look at Rice and even Keyshawn for examples. Hands, fearlessness over the middle and clutch don't go away once a guy hits 30.

This guy is such an a$$hole. He gets 7 mil a year and is on the best team in the NFC after being traded from one of the worst, and he still bitches and moans? And talks about providing for his family, no less? All these dumbasses who talk about providing their family should try having a job where they don't get paid 10 million a year so they can find out what it's like actually providing for your family. Owens is a freaking idiot, and congrats to Eagles Management for not letting him get away with this crap.

The Eagles basically have him by the short hairs:

Don't report = No big deal, you don't get paid

Demand to be traded - F You, you play here or nowhere

Report and drag your ass - Sit on the bench wasting away

Wasn't this a major topic of conversation at this time last year? He is definitely a top talent, but also a major POS

And don't we wish we could have this festered sphincter on our team. If I remember right, there were plenty of peeps that wanted him in Jet green last year. Y'know, the guy is a major talent. Plays hurt (when it will bring him plenty of publicity)and can do what he's told to do for short spans of time. Sooner or later his real being shows up and wears out any welcome that existed. His downside is far greater than any upside. It's just intangible and harder to define. But it's real and and it's got spotlights on it right now. I couldn't be happier to see anybody sodomized, with the possible exception of the other percieved savior - R. Moss Esq.

I agree Newsjetser- all the talent in the world can not make up for me a selfish, me only type of person or player. I am not surprised at all to see Owens at odds with management and certain players on the Eagles

TO picked the wrong team to screw around with this time.

Might be able to get away with that crap with the 49ers and Ravens, but he is delusional if he thinks the Eagles will cave into any of his demands.

I could understand this better if the Eagles had actually won the damn superbowl, but they lost so TO should STFU and go out there this season and win the damn thing before he holdsout for a new contract to "feed his family"

Guy signed a megadeal and all of a sudden it costs 5 million dollars to buy a loaf of bread at the bakery. STFU TO.

I think the Eagles are definately doing the right thing. TO was specifically given the terms of his contract by Coach Reid and the organization, and he signed. Now he wants to go back on his word and demand more money.

Like TO said, this is business. That is what the Eagles are doing. He signed his contract knowing fully what the terms were, and now the Eagles are sticking to their guns because he is their player. I think its the best thing for him. Might make him reconsider his selfish ways.

And personally I do not think the Eagles would trade him to Atlanta. It would be moving him to the very team that played them for a chance at the Super Bowl last season.

That might be funny. I picture T.O. nagging Vick anytime Mike takes off and runs the ball.

T.O. "I was open, I was open"

Vick "STF up or I'll kiss you"
