The Steelers are screwing up

I can't believe the Steelers are giving Hines Ward a hard time about a new contract. This is one situation where I can say a holdout is somewhat justified. The guy was promised last year that if he didnt hold out he'd be a top priority this off-season and his deal would get done. Now going in to his final year the Steelers haven't gotten the guy signed. This guy is a productive player, and a team player who plays the game the right way. Fearless, great hands, great downfield blocker. If Pittsburgh lets this guy get away they should be ashamed. Ward was #37 in salary among NFL WR last season. Who thinks there are 36 WRs better than him? [-X

Ward has them big time here. He really has ALL the leverage. They have to get this done. Seems like they offered him a fair price....(2nd tier below Harrison, Owens, Moss etc).

Unfortunately for them, that is not going to be enough to get it done.

Other than Owens I cannot think of a wideout that does more for him team that Ward, stats be damned. Every Steeler game I watch, this guy is making plays to help his team win. He blocks better than almost any other wideout. Doesn't drop anything. And until now never said a peep. As much as I hate holdouts, this is not the guy the Steelers should be playing hardball with.

Hines is in the elite class of WR's and deserves the money he is asking. He is also still very young, I believe he's only 27 or 28. The guy does everything he is askewd to do at an elite level including catching the ball, blocking, throwing when asked to do so (he was a QB in college), and being a team leader. PIT has a reputation of letting good players go and not suffering for it, but they are absolutely insane to mess around with this guy.

I agree with your evaluation on Ward's abilities. He is definitely in the "elite" class off WR's in the NFL.

But he is still under contract with the Steelers for one more year. This holdout crap about players wanting a renegotiated contract is total BS. If he wanted out, his agent should have signed him to a contract with one less year.

And BTW, I feel the same about what Seymour is doing as well.

Total BS. Honor the contract that you signed.
