Trades
I got directions on Mapquest from Northern NJ (Right off of Route 80) to Jet's Camp. They have me taking the GWB and Throggs Neck Bridges does this make sense? Is this the most direct route or am I going to get killed in traffic tomorrow morning? Are there any train options anyone knows of from the Dover, NJ area?

slats
There is no good way to get from NJ to LI. We aren't meant to intermingle. The good news is that most traffic on this side of the border will be heading in the opposite direction that you are. The bad news is that it will still be incredibly thick, stop & go. Personally, I hate the north route and try to avoid it if I can. The alternatives aren't great, though. Either it's the tunnels thru Manhattan, or it's the bridges across Staten Island. You'll have to pick what's best for you. If you're closest to the Washington Bridge, then that's probably best. The only way to avoid traffic is to get out yourself of bed early and head on out. Have breakfast on the island. Plenty of places to get a nice $8 omelette here.
Maxman
Slats that is hysterical. We aren't meant to intermingle! Coming from Central NJ I always take the Outerbridge and go over the Verrazano myself. But like Slats said...it is no picnic.

T-Mac
There is no good way to get from NJ to LI.Don't I know it? My sis lives in Farmingville. Forgot what she looks like. I refuse to drive the LIE. Now that I'm recently retired from bicycling, I normally get the LIRR from Penn Station. If you live near a train station and aren't bringing the family, I highly recommend this option. It's a $6 cab ride from the Hempstead stop.

Jets28
The Verrazano will be loaded that time in the AM...so will the tunnels. The GWB may also have a little volume. If your close to the 80...I say go 80 east to the GWB. You can then follow the directions that are posted in the thread from NJ or When your across you can hit the Deegan and head for the Triboro Bridge heading into Queens. Once over the triboro you take the Grand Central parkway east and hit the Cross Island. Make sure you take it heading towards the Whitestone bridge which runs to the southern state. You want to take that east till you see the signs for the Meadowbrook which I believe is exit 22. You want to go in the direction of Mineola...get off M4 which is the Hempstead, Nassau Coliseum exit. And you'll see a sign for the direction to Hofstra..... ..quite a journey huh... . Now you guys see how I feel when I drive all the way to the damn Meadowlands from Queens..
