The Jets have begun negotiations with the agents for cornerback Ty Law, who has relayed to the team that he prefers to play in New York for coach Herman Edwards, two people familiar with the talks said yesterday. But one person familiar with Law's situation said the prospect of avoiding two-a-day practices isn't as much a factor as first believed. Should Law pass a physical and sign with the Jets, he would not be expected to practice twice a day anyway.

Jets general manager Terry Bradway said free-agent cornerback Ty Law had not been schedule to work out for the team yet this week. According to several reports, Law may be leaning towards the Jets to play with his friend Curtis Martin and for Herman Edwards. The Jaguars, Lions and Chiefs are also trying to sign him

Despite confirmation by Bill Belichick that he has talked to free agent cornerback Ty Law, Carl Poston, the former Patriot's agent, is looking at other teams. Poston said he's waiting to hear back from the Lions and he continues to talk with the Jets. The Jaguars have made an offer, but not a good enough one. Poston doesn't think any signing will happen for at least two more weeks.

Barring an unexpected number of injuries to defensive backs, Troy Brown will stick to receiver this season. "We didn't want to play him on defense last year. That was an emergency, desperation type of situation and of course Troy handled it wall...But he's a better receiver than he is a defensive back," Bill Belichick said.
