Chrebet Should be Fighting to make the Roster

Barton

Recommended Posts

Bottom Line. I know this guy is a fan favorite and all, but he shouldnt be getting a free pass from the coaching staff on making this roster. I know he's a proven WR and still has very good hands and I dont havea grudge against him but Chrebet is not the player he once was.

And Chrebet better not get the #3 WR job! Cotchery is faster, stronger and bigger than Chrebet and from all accounts he is totally outplaying him this training camp. I dont think Dinger will play favorites seeing as how he doesnt have any past relationship with Chrebet but you never know.

Look at all our Wide Recievers that have been having outstanding training camps so far:

Justin McCareins

Laverneous Coles

JERRICHO COTCHERY

HARRY WILLIAMS

CHAS GESSNER

Chrebet has been ok, but he hasnt come close to outplaying any 1 of these 5 guys, NOT EVEN CLOSE.

Gessner has way more size and strength. Harry Williams has much more size and speed. And Jerricho Cotchery too has more size and speed.

Not to mention that all of these 3 guys have been making more plays and have shown very good hands.

I will be pissed off if we cut Harry Williams or Gessner to keep Chrebet. It's not in the best interests of the team. We need to have the best players on the roster, not a good ol' story and a fan favortie!

Chrebet still has ability and I love watching him play, but he should be fighting for his spot and earning to be on the roster.

Could we carry 6 WRs? Yes we can. But another position would have to sacrifice another player.

TC just started. They haven't even played an exhibition game, yet!

Barton is 3,000 miles away but he knows who has been outplayed.

It's your arm angle. FIX IT.

Gessner needs to make this squad. I think Wayne still makes it though. But Gessner is HUGE and can do some good things. I really hope they give him a shot.

From my observations at the Albany scrimmage Gessner and Williams have to make this squad. Gessner caught everything thrown his way and is a nice big target out there. Williams has speed which makes Carter and his only asset expendable. Cotchery I liked when the Jets drafted him out of NC St.- my gut feeling is that the Jets will try to put Williams on the practice squad

As someone who actually watched some training camp, I'll tell you that Cotchery is the one who needs to be cut. I don't know what "accounts" the boy is talking about.

Chrebet caught everything thrown at him yesterday, except for one long pass, when he slipped as he made his cut. He's fighting for the job, all right.

Moses is right, though. Lets see all these guys in a game situation.

You dipsticks! I said "by all accounts"

That means training camp reports, newspaper articles etc etc

And I caught nfl network jets training camp special, got in on tape. Williams is REALLY fast and has quick moves after the catch. And Cotchery caught 2 TDs in the endzone, both from Pennington.

bob is the only jet fan I know that has had something negative to say about cotchery during training camp so far. BY ALL ACCOUNTS, he has been outstanding. I havent heard crap about Chrebet, probably because he isnt making any big plays!!!!

With Gessner at 6'4 and Williams at 6'3 WE ACTUALLY HAVE A RECIEVER who can catch a fade pass in the corner of the endzone!!

Bottom Line is, Chrebet will make this roster, that is guaranteed. But it shouldnt be like that, thats all I'm saying.

And going by the glimpses I saw of Cotchery last season, specifically the Ram game, he has more agility and speed and ability to break tackles than Chrebet EVER had.

Chrebet may never be flashy and he's not a 1 or 2 WR any more. But as a slot reciver, used right, he can be a 1st down machine, speed be damned. He gets open and he catches. He's happy and his slary is cap-friendly.

Don't understand how they seem to have given up on Carter "by all accounts". Guy has speed to burn and had 1 unbeleivable game vs. Indy a few years back and hasn't been heard from since. Don't know if it's injuries, coaching, or attitude.

As noted, there's reason to know that this OC knows what he's doing. ANd be careful before you annoint a FA or low draft pick an All Pro "by all accounts." Writers get bored in camp, and there's always a more interesting David vs. Goliath story that writes itself about guys who are on the bubble. It's more interesting than recycling quotes from vets who have a spot locked up. Kinda how Chrebet got here in the first place-a story like that that came true.

I've seen way too much outa Carter. He does have great speed, but the guy is soft. He cant catch passes in traffic and has a hard time getting off the line when jammed. Not to mention he has crappy hands. He could be a Hackett casualty, never know....

In fact Heime upon accepting the OC job stated Wayne would be a big part of the offense again.

There's a huge difference between looking good in training camp or exhibition games compared to hauling in a crucial 3rd down pass in a big spot.

Dwayne Crutchfield always looked good in pre-season.

Chrebet will be a key contributor this year.

Chrebet will be our 3rd WR.

Why?

Because he is better than Jerricho Cotchery.

Period. Good night.

I always thought that myself. Until Saturday. Despite what Bob may say...Cotch looked really good.

Point one, EB is right that chrebet should not be just given the job, he must earn it this season. He still has concussion head and a wooy chrebet is no good for anyone.

point 2 lets see where the chips fall after the preseason games. Its a lot different when you are going full speed against real game situations. Even then it may be hard to judge williams and gessner as they will not be going against number one defenses.

point 3 Wayne never really had NFL talent persay, what he had is an all pro heart and all pro desire. THis is something the others have to show after they get drilled into the turf going over the middle to catch a pass.

Point 4 Speed be dammed, carter is gone. Lam jones had speed, see where that got us.

when all is said and done dinger will make the call. I would love to see williams make the team, he seems to have a cocky flair and strut, and something to prove. If they do beat out chrebet I will be both happy and sad but the team will have the 5 who give them the best chance to win, period. (note this does not nessesserily mean the 5 best recivers)

If Wayne does get cut does he end up in Dallas with his old "buddy".

Max, Max, Max. That's just silly. Did Cotch catch anything on Saturday?

You're trying to lure him into an online chat, right? It's the only explanation.

In that case, I'll play along. Yeah! Cotchery is WAYYYY cool! He didn't really catch any balls, or seem to know where he was supposed to be going, but he's DA MAN!

That is funny. But actually I am being dead serious here. He had at least 3 TDs in the red zone drill. Maybe he didn't do it until after you left. Or maybe you were too busy looking for your roster under the bleachers!

But I was always of the belief that the team needed Wayne to be the # 3 guy. I seriously no longer believe that.

Oh and Jerricho...we are still good for the chat right? You are my boy!

I have to be on the side with Cotchery and Max- Bob- he caught everything thrown his way at the scrimmage- I liked him in college at NC St. and still like him-he is a guy that has to play more this year as far as I am concerned
