Good article TS- This was a risky move but a move this team had to make- Law if healthy is a premier type CB that we are missing on defense before his arrival. His signing definately could push us over the hump if he plays at a Pro-Bowl level. But call me skeptical because I have a funny feeling things may not turn out as great as everyone thinks. Bradway is really taking an enormous gamble here. 1) Will Laws foot remain healthy? Based on some excellent due diligence by I think Meddle a few months ago, he posted xrays etc on this type of injury. My conclusion was that few come back to play like before this type of injury and none return in the short time Law is coming back in. 2) Will Law still be a bigtime player without Belechicken doing the coaching? 3) Did we bid against ourself in getting Law? The only team ofering big bucks may have been the Rams who Law wouldn't play for. 4) Payroll wise, how much cap is being taken up by just 5 players (Abe, Chad, Martin, Ellis, Coles)? xto should have that answer. How will this impact us in signing free agents and keeping our own young players? Garb Posted August 9, 2005 Share Posted August 9, 2005 Since I've watched Ty Law play for the Pats his entire career, I'll give you my take on his abilities - health notwithstanding. He's a top three CB, IMO. He's a savvy player who's speed isn't the greatest, but makes up for it with smarts. He can read offensive schemes like no other. He takes "SMART" gambles - will jump a route and try to intercept a pass. He's superb at jamming receivers within five (7? :wink: ) yards off the line - thus disrupting the pattens - just ask Marvin Harrsion. If you get him into single coverage - man on man - he's excellent at defending the bigger receivers. His only flaw - and it's not that big of one - is that he has more difficulty covering the smaller, shiftier recievers with excellent foot speed - like a Deion Branch. First, I think it is a good move. I have less a problem with the money then most. He is an upgrade and your starting corners are better then last year's. With that said, Belichick has always done an excellent job of masking players shortcomings. I remember the Carroll years when Ty was allowed to be 'man on man on an island' and how he was good, but not as good as he was during the Belichick era. Should be interesting. Always the mandatory PAT on the back to accompany any slight Jet compliment. Law was ok ...BB made him great. We could say BB was just ok....until Brady came along. Btw, TX, did I tell you that Tim Dwight is a midget? He can't be more than 5'8" and 165 pounds. No wonder he's always hurt. No way this guy makes the cut. My early picks: WR Locks: Branch, Givens, Brown (yup, my boy!) and Terrell. Most likely: Sam, Johnson Practice Squad: Bam Childress Out: Dwight and everyone else. TE Locks: Graham, Watson. And yet Brady still has thrown for 7200+ yards and 51 TDs these past two years. 1000 yard receivers mean nothing. Look at the comparison: over the last two years the Patriots have had 13 100 yard receiving games compared to the Jets 4 last year? What does that tell you? That Moss' 1000 yrad year means little and the Patriots' spreading the wealth has allowed the Patriots to go 34-4 despite injuries to the receiving corps.
