The Associated Press reports New York Jets QB Chad Pennington (shoulder) will not play in the New York Jets' preseason opener against the Detroit Lions Friday, August 12. "We didn't want to take a chance to have a setback when everything was going so well," Pennington said. Pennington now has a sore left calf that was injured after he was spiked by a teammate Monday, August 8. The calf has some bruising and swelling.
