Smizzy Posted August 13, 2005 Share Posted August 13, 2005 Jets Tame Lions, 10-3; Rookies Impressive On a night when scoring was low and penalties were high, the New York Jets came away with a hard-fought 10-3 victory over the visiting Detroit Lions. The game also featured some impressive debuts by the Jets rookie class. Punter Ben Graham averaged 54.7 yards on three punts; defensive tackle Sione Pouha had four tackles; cornerback Justin Miller supplied four tackles on defense and a 28-yard kickoff return on special teams; kicker Mike Nugent nailed a 40-yard field goal and was consistenly deep on kickoffs; and Kerry Rhodes, possibly the most impressive of all the rookies, was credited with two tackles, one interception, and a critical pass defense on the last play of the game.
