Touchdown Tuesday

By Troy Nelson

There was a full house when the Jets took the practice field at 3:30 Tuesday afternoon for the latter portion of their two-a-day practices. And the lucky fans in attendance were treated to a torrent of touchdown throws by quarterbacks Chad Pennington and Jay Fiedler.

During 7-on-7 drills, Pennington hooked up with tight end Chris Baker for a 15-yard score across the middle. Not to be outdone, Fielder connected on two scores. One, to rookie wideout Terrence Stubbs, covered 20 yards and the other, to rookie tight end Joel Dreessen, measured 15 yards.

Later, during 11-on-11 drills, the QBs continued their touchdown assault. Again, Fielder threw for two scores: 30 yards to WR Chas Gessner and 10 yards to WR Jovan Witherspoon. And Pennington added another TD to his training camp total with a perfect 30-yard strike to Laveranues Coles.

Rookie cornerback Justin Miller had the lone theft of the afternoon when he intercepted a deflected Fielder pass during 9-on-7 drills.

Practice concluded shortly past 5:00, but not before head coach Herm Edwards had his players running 40-yard wind sprints.

The Jets have two practices scheduled for Wednesday, a special teams-only session at 10:30am and a full-team workout slated for 7:15pm, the third night practice of training camp.
