Bit - i agree with what you say about the jets being better suited as underdogs. i think the media really missed the boat last year with the jets - not based on talent but based on the schedule, especially the first 5 games.

this year is different - the biggest thing that stands in the jets way is the strength of schedule. 10 wins is a good number with this schedule that basically plays all of the afc contenders. the problem w/10 wins is that you have to go on the road and probably win 3 to get to the SB. i am not worried about chad, curtis, the D, dinger/hendu, etc...

i am worried about how the jets do in the final 2 minutes of close games and against elite defenses. put the jets in the nfc east and i would say 13-3 and super bowl, afce is a whole different ballgame.

Good job, Bit.

Ideally get a 1 or 2 seed. And win the division; it's doable.

We have solid guys running all 3 units. If you read Cimini's article about Hackett today, it's worse than we thought. That change alone means this offense will be fine, even if Fiedler gets pressed into service.

Quiet confidence, cautious optimism; you could be spending a dream February weekend in tropoical Detroit.

Good work Matt. A refreshing change from the editorials that TomShane usually puts up there. No Jet bashing? What the hell is wrong in the Nation?

Sometimes it is better to be lucky. And according to my calculations this franchise is due for a boatload of good luck soon.

All championship teams have some luck come their way in one form or another.

We all have luck, but how we use it, or when we seize it are another story.

Successful teams, people, are able to grasp it and use it to their advantage. They know how to keep it and thrive on it.

In the 26 years I've followed this team, it always seemed like the luck would run out, that we'd get so close, only to have the door slam in our faces,w hether it be AJ Duhey, Mark Gastineu, Vinny's Achilles, or 3 fumbles in the second half at Denver.

thanks for the kind words all. This article was inspired by the day I sat with my father at the 1999 season opener and watched Vinny Testeverde's achilles roll up like a window shade. The season was over by halftime and the sopressata tasted like ashes in my mouth. We all know the Jets have a chance for something great this year. But to get to that elusive goal will take something more than just the perfect roster and the perfect regular season. We need mojo.

I puked when Vinny went down.

Good article Bit

I prefer the Jets being underdogs - I like when the media lowers the expectations for the team

It is a corny saying but you do need talent and luck to win championships in any sport
