High quality LB might be cut, will Patriots bite?

That's Scott Fujita, great athlete and the Chiefs leading tackler the last 2 seasons (273 tackles and fairly high 9 sacks the last 2 seasons)....

For some inexplicable reason, Gunther Cunningham is fueding with Fujita and is try to replace him with a Division 2 undrafted free agent and bumping him to 3rd string :wtf:

Fujita is better than Beisel and more of a complete athlete--he's a former high school slam dunk champ, who went to Cal to play safety, but bulked up to the point he had to play LB.

Chiefs didn't play Fujita in this last exhibition game, because in pre-season game 2 he had 7 tackles and 2 forced fumbles...basically, the Chiefs want to run him out of town and don't want him looking too good (they claim he's still injured).

He's not a superstar, by any means. But is better than Beisel (who I think belongs at OLB) and a washed up Chad B.

Right now, I bet the Chiefs are affraid to cut him, because he's from the Bay area and the Raiders and Al Davis, who have lost some LB's to trades and injuries, are ready to pounce. Last thing the Chiefs want, is to see him as a Raider twice per season.

TS, I would rather have him than Hobson, but I can't see that occuring. You are right, he's real good in coverage, when healthy.

Chiefs better watchout here, he was really their only quality LB and they are running him out of town....On the record, they claim "he doesn't move well enough for Gunther's system", but that makes little sense, considering the way Fujita has played and how terrible Kawika Mitchell still starts.

I wouldn't be suprised if the Chiefs are trying to peedle him to the 49ers (just moved to a 3-4), in hopes that he can stay away from the Raiders.

Men, not sure why they want to let him go....To me, he's been their only decent LB recently and they seem bent on replacing him with unproven players

It seems he had an injury and the Chiefs wanted him to sit. He came back and is fighting through it...

Why is that a bad, I'm not sure?

I know one thing, the Chiefs have been using beat writers stoodges that ran fan sites (and lick the front offices behind) to bash him up and down.

Like I said, they let him play a lot in 1 exhibition game** and he was star of their defense---after that, they demoted him to 4th string :wtf:

Gotta be something behind the scenes?

So the Chiefs want to get rid of their best LB? Hahaha, that's funny.

Derrick Johnson is over-rated and too slow in my mind while Kendrell Bell isn't the same player he once was.

Derrick Johnson too slow?

He is faster than any linebacker on our team!

Sounds familiar.

Thought that'd strike a cord...but it's true in many cases. Unfortunate as it may sound.

************

DJ is fast....He had to be the star with the most detractors last season..

Some scouts loved him; others thought he was a bust waiting to happen due to poor tackling skills....we'll find out soon.

Chiefs also like rookie LB Boomer Grigsby and NFLe MVP Rich Scanlon.

So, Fujita, has dropped from 31 LB in 2004 to like #9--

Thanks Greenbeans, much appreciated...Maybe Maxman can charge a fee a soon...

Hopefully he'll hand out a few "free subscriptions"

No, thank you R44 - you da' man!

If Max wants to charge a fee, I'll be more than happy to collect for him. :) Whatcha say, Max?

Not that this is remotely on topic, but what was your take on Andre Maddox? I've watched him play in college and didn't think much of him, I'm just wondering what I missed. :)

Beans, I think Maddox really made a big splash at the Combine, running in the low 4.5's....Remember, 40 times at the Combine (electronically timed) aren't as fancy as the "bogus numbers" the schools report on Pro Days, which are hand timed (average SS at the last combine ran like a 4.7; average FS ran like 4.64).

I stated to R.Cimini in chat #2, I wasn't a huge Maddox fan and was much higher on Rhodes--though wondered if Rhodes had the build to withstand the NFL pounding (he's skinny) in the longrun? Remember, Rhodes played some CB in college.

Maddox is a weird cat, because he's got real good speed for a safety, yet never had an Interception in his college career and wasn't great in coverage....he was more of a 8th man up-front, runstopper for the Wolfpack

I think Maddox is more of special teams type in the NFL, when he gets back after the ACL.....

Actually, a torn ACL for Maddox, this early in his career, could be huge he never overcomes--he's a low pick, will he get a legit, considering it takes 2 seasons to FULLY recover from ACL's for some DB's?

Most lower picks that get badly injured this early never reappear in the NFL...So he's got a tough road back.

See - The Oracle is the correct title! I live just outside of Raleigh and Maddox was not even mentioned as an NFL'er last August, that's why I wondered. The 0 career int thing was a product of the NC State defensive concept more than on him, but ZERO?

Thanks a bunch!

Thanks Beans....

Here's an update on Fujita from the Kansas City Star's (and ESPN's) Jason Whitlock:

"What should the Chiefs do? (about a poor defensive line)

It’s probably too late for this suggestion, but I’ll throw it out there: Gunther needs to mix in some 3-4 defensive packages and consider scrapping the 4-3.

If Bell is healthy throughout the season, the Chiefs have plenty of fast, athletic linebackers that could play in a 3-4 defense.

It appears the Chiefs want to give up on Fujita....That’s a mistake. He could be effective in a 3-4.
