JETS & NORTH FORK BANK TO HONOR FORMER LINEBACKERS MO LEWIS & MARVIN JONES AT HALFTIME CEREMONY OF HOME OPENER

New York City - The New York Jets and North Fork Bank announced today that former linebackers Mo Lewis and Marvin Jones will be honored in a halftime ceremony of their home opener against the Miami Dolphins on September 18, 2005. Both players retired as members of the Jets on June 27, 2005. North Fork Bank, the official sponsor of the New York Jets Alumni Association, will sponsor the event and the festivities surrounding the recognition bestowed upon Lewis and Jones. The announcement was made by Jets' Executive Vice President/ General Manager Terry Bradway.

"The Jets are proud that Mo and Marvin retired following long and highly productive careers with the New York Jets," said Bradway. "Both players dedicated their lives to football, demonstrating a commitment to their profession. Serving as the pillars of the Club's defensive units, both Mo and Marvin gave opposing offenses plenty of worries and gave Jets' fans plenty to cheer about. It's rare today to have a player spend his entire career with one team, and in this instance, the Jets have two and it's a tribute to both gentlemen."

"As the preferred banking partner of the New York Jets, North Fork Bank is thrilled to honor Marvin Jones and Mo Lewis for their extremely significant accomplishment," said Carolyn Drexel, North Fork Banks Executive Vice President, Retail Administration. "As the official sponsor of the Jets' Alumni Network, North Fork Bank congratulates these players for their career long contribution to the Jets organization. We wish Mo, Marvin and the entire Jets squad best of luck this season."

Lewis, a native of Atlanta, GA, was the Jets' third-round draft choice and the 62nd player selected overall in the 1991 NFL Draft. He served as the Jets' defensive captain from 1997 through his final season in 2003. He played in 200 regular season games, placing him sixth on the all-time most career games played as a Jet, and recorded 103 consecutive games in the process. He chalked up 52.5 career sacks and ranks fourth among the Clubs' all-time sack leaders. He recorded 1,370 career tackles (942 solo and 428 assists) placing him second on the Jets' all-time tackles chart. Lewis also recorded 32 double-digit tackle games over the course of his career. He also played strong-side, weak-side and middle linebacker and saw spot duty at both defensive end positions during his career. Lewis was just the second linebacker in Green and White history to be named to multiple Pro Bowl squads. Lewis attended the University of Georgia prior to joining the Jets, where he immediately earned a spot in the starting lineup as a rookie.

Jones was the Jets' first-round draft choice in 1993, the fourth overall selection. He played in 142 games for the Green and White in his 11 seasons and started 129, including all 80 throughout his last five seasons. He ranks third in Jets' history with 1,200 tackles (811 solo), notching eight 100-plus tackle seasons. Jones also tallied nine sacks, five interceptions, 29 passes defended, 11 forced fumbles and eight fumble recoveries in his Jets career. The Florida State product also added 25 tackles on special teams for the Jets.

Both players will be made available to the press in the Jets' press room at 2:30 p.m. on the day of the game.
