It's not looking good. My mother has secured a hotel room in Austin, but I just want to go to Lake Charles and watch the damn Jets game. I said I would never run from one of these again after I wasted two days in San Antonio avoiding the legendary Ivan.

Troll, where are you located?

This is not good. If it stays on that path, we take a direct hit. We are 20 miles inland from Galveston.

TX-My thoughts and prayers will not only be with you and yours, but of the entire area.

I think there is a new-found respect for the forces of nature. I hope that for you and all you hold dear to you weather the storm

Scary. Tx-ever see that History Channel show about Galveston taking a direct hit way back?

We're told that the south shore of LI-from Breezy Point (where my parents live) to Montauk is relatively safe since the ocean water rarely is as hot as the Gulf, storms cannot get much past cat 1 or 2. And the few occasions it came close to a serious hit(Gloria and Belle in the late 70s) storms petered out. Still, if they ever had to evacuate , it would be chaos.

Thanks folks for all the well wishes.

Bugg, I did see that show about Galveston on the History Channel.

People seem to forget that Galveston is a very low-lying island. A direct hit and that place would be completley devestated and underwater.

I just heard on the news that they will begin evacuations of Galveston tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM.

Good luck Tex! Here's hoping Rita packs all the punch of a noodle-armed quarterback.

unfortunatly, after what we've witnessed thus far, you have just insulted all the noodles on aisle 12.

tx, if you do have to evacuate, be sure to unplug your computer & place it on the floor :?

You gonna board up the windows tx?

I was just watching the news, and they said it could REALLY strength out in the gulf and potentially be a 4 or even 5 hurricane before it makes landfall, saying it could be another Katrina.

Not sure where it would hit around you, but definetly stay safe tx.
