Herm the Idiot

The Jets doled out a $3 million signing bonus to Derrick Blaylock last offseason to serve as Curtis Martin's understudy, to save the future Hall of Famer from excessive wear and tear. But, in last Sunday's win over the Dolphins, Martin was subjected to a pounding for the ages.

Yesterday, Herm Edwards admitted it was a mistake.

"You can't ask Curtis to carry the ball 31 times a game," the Jets' coach said. "That's not fair to Curtis, it's really not."

I give up with this guy. He is the definition of a dumb head coach.

My deal on the whole Curtis/Herm situation is this.

IF Curtis wants to give it a go and Herm feels like he's the best option....

Then Curtis better come out firing. He better look like he's 25. Give him the first 7 carries of the game and if he looks like what he has the past two weeks give him the hook. At least you can say you gave it a shot.

Unfortunately, Herm will forget Curtis is in the game.

Martin has to run against two mountain men in the middle. He doesn't not have the speed to the outside and needs for Kendall and Moore to open up holes for him. That will not happen this week.

Play Blaylock. He can turn the corner and has good hands. Give our geriatric a rest and hope he can play against Ray Ray and company next week.

I give up with herm. I do. He's a hell of a guy. I love his character, and the type of person he is, but as a coach, he leaves alot to be desired.

Herm, Your 32 year old back injured his knee in the first quarter, and you proceed to feed him the rock to the tune of 31 carries.

You do realize that Martin is 32? Do you also realize that Martin had 371 carries last year? Maybe you also realize that Chad has a shoulder that is not fully healed yet and teams are starting to stack the line to take away Martin, meaning he's facing 7/8 men in the box? Finally, maybe this is obvious. Martin faces Jax, Balt, Tampa and Buffalo, all formidable defenses, four straight weeks, and also has the pleasant task of facing our entire division in December, our supposed stretch run?

Idiot. That's right, wear his already tired, worn out old ass in September, and make him useless in December, when we will need him most.

This week's line:

Martin: 26 carries, 78 yards.

Blaylock: 3 carries, 17 yards.

Even if Martin was perfectly healthy he is not going to rip off 25 -30 yard gainers. We do not have the ability against good defenses to move 3 and 4 yards a crack down the field.

Blaylock has the ability to at least get outside the tackles- give him some more carries Herm- Give Houston a shot too

The man just does not have a clue. Why not sit the ******* guy for a quarter or two after he got hurt? Chad said that he couldn't even tell that Curtis was injured, but I challenge anyone that watched that game to tell me that they didn't see the play where Zach Thomas kinda leg-whipped him and he limped back to the huddle. He should have come out right there for at least a couple of plays. I can't wait to see Heimerdinger go after Herm on the sideline this season because of a dispute over play-calling.

Anything short of amputation...curtis martin will get the green light from his biggest fan.

I love Curtis....but when you ran like shirt for 2 straight weeks and you got injured on top of it...you need to rest for the long season ahead.

Didn't he learn from his high ankle spain? He said himself he messed himself up for the rest of the season.

So I ask you....What are we more concerned about here? Curtis Martin's rank on the all time yardage list or winning football games? Oh & im not saying curtis is done and he is hurting the team..Im saying he's gambling bigtime playing when he's injured so early in the season.

The risk/reward is far too low to play him.

I think it's becomming overly apparent that fans are getting tired of our one man running game.

Savage should be handsomely rewarded.

What I have been saying since 01 when we drafted a back in the 2nd rd was Martin is 29 if your going

to resign him and want him to last split carries with the other back! But the stat conscious Martinette's were aghast!! What they said?? This Jordan fellow can't carry his jock..So Jordan sat for 4 yr's..

With the good fortune of Holmes being hurt,Martin at 31 got the most carries of his career from his OC with 371 to win the Rushing title by a yard! Of course he needed more carries then the other backs to win..But then he needed 700 more carries then Jim Brown to equal his yardage so that's no surprise! So someday when a Martinette is talking to his grandson

who asks;Granddad how come the Jets only won 1 Super Bowl? He can say didn't need to Son we had Cumar!

But Granddad all these other backs played well in the playoffs and had a higher carry avg..Now listen here

Sonny..Martin was good to his Momma and was a Classy Guy! Ask anymore questions and I'll send you back to

your Momma looking like you had a date with Gastineau! After the Grandkid left the sad old Martinette took his pistol put it in his Butt and blew his brains out..

I fault Blaylock for this entire debate. The man was not smart in choosing he Jets. What he should have done was give Jordan a call before signing on the dotted line. I'm sure LJ would have filled him in on playing time behind CM.

What does it tell you when the staff played CM on two sprained ankles two years ago rather than giving playing time to LJ? I doubt if Blaylock gets a sniff on Sunday.... :Cuss:

You guys fell for Herm's coachspeak again. What you fail to realize is that he used CuMar perfectly last sunday. We were up 2 scores and ran out the clock, until another TD was finally needed to seal the deal. Keep in mind there were 7 fumbles the week before. No reason to risk handing off to a new RB in that situation.

T-Mac, point taken. However, how many times over the past 5 seasons have we seen Martin get the load of "garbage time" carries? I'm not saying "garbage time" applies to last weeks game, as it was a nail biter (7-0/10-7 for 3/4 of the game), but when do you finally start trusting other players on the roster?

Herm doesn't even give other RB's a chance to gain his trust. You can't sit around and wait until a critical point to start doing that. And that's been Herm's M.O. since he's been here:

Wait until the sht hits the fan to try something new. Further on down the road, Blaylock might have to come in the game, and it just might be a must win game-

It would be nice if he had some past experience to draw from. Confidence is so much a part of this experience; a baptism under fire. Lets get that baptism out of the way right from the get go, let's not wait until a critical December game to give Blaylock carries. Let's give him carries when we don't necassarily need to, so that when we actually do need to, he's ready. Kapisch?

Maybe Blaylock gets 5 carries last week in the 4th quarter, and the results are the same. Everybody's happy, everybody's feeling a "part of", and everybodys got their sea legs.

Instead, you got a beat up 32 year old RB who's not getting any younger, looking at a tough schedule against the best defenses in the NFL, and a back-up RB who's confused and unsure of himself.

I don't want to see Blaylock get "worked into the system" when the team hits a crisis.

But that's what Herm does with backups- he did the same crap with Vinny/Chad and he'll pull the same crap with Chad/Feidler. And the writing is on the wall for Martin/Blaylock as it was with Martin/Jordan.
