bitonti
honestly I don't hate this move - if it's true. Dinger is known to work with the strength of his players. Vinny has a great arm. It could be worse.

bitonti
let's think about this - Vinny's best ball is the deep ball. He loves the shotgun. Dinger loves to go deep and he loves the shotgun. He has a great rapport with Wayne, and not that bad of a rapport with Coles. This is a guy who never really "got old" he always plays the same INT prone game even in his prime and I'm willing to be is still in sick shape because he's a gym rat. He's playing in his home town and gets to play the hero. I like this move. Once we get past the loss of Chad and Jay and look realistically at the options, this is a no brainer. It isn't a pleasant move to make but it had to be done.
Bob
I'm not sure there was a better option. Here's a question, though - how big a douchebag must Quincy Carter be to not even get a call?

Fred Jetstone
Jets agree to terms with Testaverde Associated Press 9/27/2005 10:35:13 AM NEW YORK (AP) - Vinny Testaverde, who spent some of his best NFL seasons with the New York Jets, is set to rejoin the team to replace Chad Pennington, lost for the season with a shoulder injury. The agreement was confirmed to The Associated Press on Tuesday by a person with knowledge of the deal, but who declined to be identified. The Jets are desperate for a veteran quarterback with the loss of Pennington, and his backup, Jay Fielder, who also injured his shoulder after replacing Pennington in Sunday's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brooks Bollinger, in his third season, was expected to start for the Jets in Sunday's game against Baltimore. Testaverde, who started for Dallas last season, was at the Jets' training complex Tuesday morning for a physical. He was unsigned when this season began. The agreement was first reported by Newsday on its website. Testaverde, who turns 42 in two months, grew up a few kilometres from the Jets complex, and was with the team from 1998 through 2003, leading them to the AFC title game in 1998. The first overall pick in the 1987 draft by Tampa Bay, he has played 18 seasons in the NFL with the Bucs, Cleveland/Baltimore, the Jets and the Cowboys. He is sixth on the NFL's career list of passers with 44,476 yards.

RSJ
I like this too. Lets try to be patient and not get ripped off. The first person who says well Parcells went 6-10 with Vinny - needs thier ass kicked.
BwanaZulia
Ok, coming around on this, but still rough. - Vinny can help Bolly in the games - Vinny brings experience and knowledge to the game - Vinny comes cheap - Play out this year, see if there is a diamond in the Bolly, and see where you sit. I hope Brooks can do it, I really do. GO BOLLY! BZ
Barton
Good stopgap. The Chargers would probably rape us right now in a trade for Rivers. And the truth is, Rivers is the only QB out there worthy of trading a day 1 pick for. And it would suck to trade for Rivers, then put him behind our horse sh** Oline, so he could get killed. I like this Vinny move now. He obviously still has a great arm, although we all know he makes stupid stupid mistakes. But lets just hope he can hit our WRs down the field when they are wide open. Vinny T is back baby!

BlackLabelJetsFan
This cracks me up: n addition to getting into game shape, Testaverde has already met with quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates to get familiar with the Jets playbook. "We're skipping over a few things. You never take a full playbook into a gameplan on Sunday," Testaverde said. "You shrink it down and do what you think is best for that opponent. The coaches will make up the gameplan and, hopefully, I'll be able to learn it very quickly and be out there for practice tomorrow and make an impression on the guys and get their confidence level up." This isn't the first time Testaverde has worked with Bates, the Jets' first-year quarterbacks coach. Their relationship dates back nearly 15 years, when the 41-year-old quarterback was a member of the Cleveland Browns. "Jeremy was with me when I played for the Cleveland Browns. His father, Jim Bates, was a defensive coach and Jeremy was a ball boy," Testaverde said with a smile. "He was 15 years old. We had a good laugh upstairs a little while ago." If Washington wont trade us Ramsey and Tenn wont trade Volek, just WHO would you bring in? NOD? Jesse Palmer? Doug Johnson? Its all the same level of talent. Of COURSE its a stop gap - its week 4 of the season. At least Vinny, if he has to, can come in as the #2 QB and grip it and rip it. The guy may throw interceptions, but he's got an arm and stays in crazy shape.
