The Gun Of Bavaria
THIS IS AN OPEN CHALLENGE TO THE COACHING STAFF OF THE NEW YORK JETS, SPECIFICALLY HEAD COACH HERMAN EDWARDS, AS WELL AS OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR MIKE HERMINDINGER AND DEFENSIOVE COORDINATOR DONNIE HENDERSON ON A LESSER SCALE: I, GOB, hereby challenge the Jets coaching staff (CS) to pull out all the safeguards, grow some balls and coach with absolute wreckless abaondon from this point on. I challenge the CS to do whatever they have to do to win the game. To call the both offensive and defensive plays that they've always wanted to call but didn't because they were considered too dangerous for their conservative approach. I challenge the CS on offense to throw the ball downfield, early and often, and NOT use Curtis Martin as their security blanket for the 3rd stringer. Doing that will invite 8 defensive players in the box and you won't get far. I challenge the CS on defense to blitz, stunt, and blitz some more so that the QB doesn't know which way is up at the end of the day. It's always better to be on the attack rather then the defensive. I challenge the CS to come out with such an aggressive game plan that no one will be able to predict us from this point forward. I challenge to the CS to look for points in ALL areas of the game, this specifically related to Special Teams. Go ahead, mix in some reverses, fake reverses on Kickoff and punt return. You have NOTHING to lose. Coach like there is no tomorrow because THERE ISN'T. There is now NO excuse to approach these games from a conservative angle. It's time to get aggressive, go postal and shoot for the stars. Who cares if it's unrealistic? You have a 3rd string QB starting and a 65 year old as his backup, no one expects you to do anything with your season, so why help them. These remaining 13 games will say it ALL about Herm Edwards. Does he have the balls to cut it lose and go out with bang, or does he insist in sitting back, still losing, but keeping 'casualties' to a minimum. GOB's Keys To The Remainder Of The Season: 1) THROW EARLY, THROW OFTEN. - If you're afraid to let your 3rd stringer throw it you're going to pay the price, or should I say, Curtis Martin will. 1st play of the game you shoud throw a 45 yard bomb downfield REGARDLESS. 2) Substitute, Substitute, Substitute: Work Blaylock into this offense and change up the tempo on the defense. Not a play here, a play there, work him in EVERY drive. Hell, get Houston in there once in a while. Change it up, make yourselves UNPREDICTABLE. YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE 3) Spread the wealth. Work the ball to different receivers. Get the TEs, specially that Doug Jolley guy involved. 4) Defense: Blitz. Stunt, Pressure the offense. Don't let them relax one bit. Make thier lives a living hell. Put a shirt on them every play. 5) Play every game like it's your last, cuz there's a chance it is. All bets are off. There may be changes in the off season so there's no time like now to pull out all the stops and play everygame like you'll be somewhere else next year. Why be conservative? Why play it safe? Why worry about the reprocussions if you screw it up. The expectations are gone. No one expects you to do anything with your season.

BwanaZulia
The only thing missing from the plan is the player to execute it. Sure, it would be great to put together this downfield attack with all these great schemes and plays, but there is a third string QB back there who has taken all of 9 snaps in the NFL, has probably gotten about 10% of the practice snaps and who has been using the playbook as a place to rest his beer. I think it comes down to what you want from this game. 1) Do you want to just throw everything to the wind and see what happens and pray for a win? 2) Do you want to play to win in week 4 and move to the next week? I agree the running game is going to be shut down early and often if we don't show Brooksie can throw the long ball, but to do that all day is to just to make sure Brooks throw 5 Ints. joewilly
great post guns. I think charlie weiss is having a ball in nd watching him spread the O & baffle pittsburgh with his creative playcalling was awesome. went for it on 4th & 17 in the state game & got it. bz - he's saying give the players a dang chance to execute. ya gotta keep em off balance somehow. smashmouth with curtis left, curtis right, curtis left, curtis right, curtis left & then get creative with curtis left again probably won't get it done

Unless we prove we can throw the ball, Curtis might end up with 30 carries, -20 yards (and yes, that goes for Blaylock as well) That being said, they have to go with what Brooks can do. It will be a fine mix of keeping the defense off guard and staying within what a third string QB can manage. BZ
Bugg
You're playing a 3rd string Qb vs. one of the best defenses in the NFL. If Edwards' plan is to run Curtis Martin into the teeth of the DL every 1st and 2nd down, don't bother showing up. There's no point. Not only with the Ravens put 8 and 9 in the box, you'll see 5-2 formations as the Jags wwere doing to ward the end. The idea that waiting around to luck into a late game score to break a tie gets you nothing. Throw the ball. You have NOTHING to lose at this point. There's no point to having all thes guys-Coles, Mccareins, Crotchery, Chrebet, Jolly-if you don't thorw to them. The Ravens have seen the BS swing passes to the backs. Ed Reed's good for at least 2 turnovers if that timid idiocy is the gameplan. Get some RBs like Blaylock and Hosuton in there. martin is DONE. AND RUN WIDE.The only discenible strength the Jets OL has is that the Kendall and Mawe can pull. 'Tis better to die on you feet than live on your knees with the Pussyball that's been the hallmark of this team under Edwards.Waiting around for a lucky score at the end of a close game isn't going to work. Either the jets will put their opponents back on their heels or they'll get crushed. As to luck, luck is the residue of design, and it's made by the bold. HERM-SPROUT AN EFFIN' PAIR! faba
With his mobility I would expect to see some rollouts incorporated in the passing game with Bollinger. We have to use his strengths to try to get the maximum out of him.

BZ BZ, I'm not saying let's cash it and shoot for draft picks by any stretch. All I'm saying is in our current state, there is nothing to lose by being aggressive. If Bolly throws 5 INTs does it really matter in the grand scheme of this season? What I'm saying is I think most people, from the fans, to the writers to probably some Jets staffers think this season is a wash. The NY Jets are officially 'dead' in the eyes of their fellow NFL teams. They know we have a defense that can keep us in it but they think that a 3rd string QB combined with an already uberconservative offense (I blame Penny's abilites this year vs Dinger for that one) is a death sentence. They're going to stack against the run like no one's buisness. Hell I was just on FoxSports.com, there's a quote from Ray Lewis to the affect of: " They have a 3rd string QB and an all-world RB, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what they're going to do". I'm saying there is nothing to lose and if the Jets stay too conservative because the 3rd stringer is the QB theres ZERO chance to do anything with this season. In my mind, going uberconservative with Bollinger is a DEATH SENTENCE for the 2005 season. That's the nice part about having no expectations, no matter what you do, it doesn't matter. This isn't about a Super Bowl anymore, this is about pride. And being conservative says that we don't have enough pride to at least give it a shot. I agree, except it is not about pride, it is about winning this week. We need to win this game, this one week, walk away at 7:30PM with a win. That is what is about. Next week is another week of ups and downs and in the NFL anything can happen, the only thing every fan should be focused on is winning this week. I agree that coming out and confusing the defense with a lot of different stuff is what is needed, but not a balls to the wall "who cares" but more of a "strategy". You know? Savage69
I agree Guns..Bottom line is simple! No one expects us to do anything or if they do it will be to cower in the corner and be as safe as possible!! BS! Play balls to the wall and throw everything including the kitchen sink! It will do 2 things..First make for some down right interesting football and just maybe get us a win and some confidence for Bollywood!

Green DNA
I have to agree GOB, let's go down swinging and make them carry us out on our shield. It's better than cowering in the corner wasiting for the executioner to give us 2 behind the ear.
