i was talking to GJ&H about this... he says there's a top recruit prep Greald McCoy DL that visiting Notre Dame this weekend - and the boosters said to Weis, hey maybe we shouldn't have this kid in the week we are playing USC - Weis says to the boosters, this is the perfect time to have him in, cause after we beat USC he signs on the dotted line!

SAME SITUATION WITH THE KID CLAUSEN. HE IS THE TOP RATED QB PROSPECT IN THE COUNTRY. HE IS THE BROTHER OF THE OTHER 2 CLAUSEN QB'S. WORD IS HE IS LEANING TOWARDS N.D., BUT USC IS A VERY CLOSE 2ND. WONDER IF HE WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE THIS WEEKEND.

AS FOR THE GAME. I THINK THE IRISH HAVE A VERY GOOD SHOT TO KNOCK OF THE TROJANS. THEY WILL BE ABLE TO SCORE ON USC'S OVER RATED DEFENSE. MY ONLY QUESTION IS WHETHER THE ND SECONDARY CAN SLOW DOWN ALL THE WEAPONS THAT LEINART HAS TO WORK WITH.

PREDICTION:

ND - 41

USC- 38

I think the entire Texas Longhorns team is rooting for ND to knock off USC this weekend.

As is the winner of the ACC championship game (ie: Va Tech or FSU)

That being said, USC is going to roll Notre Dame. While USC hasn't played a good defense yet, and Notre Dame has an adequte one, it's still a weak defense. And, lest we forget, Michigan State beat Notre Dame, in Notre Dame. USC is the superior team in the landscape of college football. They're destined for three in a row, especially if they get Texas.

What will suck for Texas is if USC and Va Tech run the table, and they wind up out of the picture due to the BCS and the fact that the Big 12 blows goats this year.

Which makes me smile, as I hate Texas, and pretty much the whole Big 12. I hope USC and Va Tech do run the table. They had a damn good game last year (if anyone remembers), and I have no doubt they'll have an even better game this year.

As much as I hate the Irish, i'm rooting for them this weekend against USC. If they can knock off USC, FSU will move up to #3 in the nation. With the rest of FSU's schedule, we have Virginia, Clemson, and NC State, which are all games we can win. If we win all three of those we pretty much gaurantee ourselves a spot in the ACC Championship game heading into Florida. Florida will be a tough game, but if our defense can hold up against the Gators and say, the Hokies in the ACC Championship, Noles could very well play for the Nat'l title. I know, farfetched, but it could happen. Weatherford and the offense (see 6'6' Greg Carr) are only getting better and the defense has been absolutely dynamite. Still not the Noles of old, but pretty damn good.

Visiting USC 12 point favs.

Gotta like ND and the number.

Maybe even ND and the W, that would be huge.

Notre Dame with the points is a bet I would take for sure- USC has had some problems on defense- their offense is loaded with talent but you can score on them- this is Notre Dame' chance to get back into the upper tier of colleges again

just as an FYI this is a partial lst of the high profile recruits coming to ND for the USC game - i don't think Clausen is among them.

also a good read about what happened when Reggie Bush showed up to watch #6 USC face #7 Notre Dame in 2002

http://www.southbendtribune.com/stories/2005/10/10/sports.20051010-sbt-MICH-C1-USC_game.sto

No, Jimmy Clausen is a junior and won't use up his visits so soon. I've heard, though, that he's being given the ND hard sell. Should be tough to pry him out of California, and I wouldn't be at all suprised if he ends up at some wildcard school - UCLA, perhaps. People talk about the kid like he's the next <gasp> Peyton Manning.

Heard another story about Weis' recruiting from last spring. He took tape on every high school quarterback in the nation. He and other coach independently evaluated all QB prospects, and both came to the same conclusion on who was best (again, independently) - Zach Fraser, who committed to ND last May. Now, Zach hovers around #7 on most charts, so I guess they were looking for something particular. The Irish also locked up Demetrius Jones, another top QB prospect, and promised him he'd only be asked to play QB, so that position is well- stocked. Still, Clausen is supposed to be a rare talent.

Another GREAT freakin Saturday of football:

USC at Notre Dame, 3:30 p.m., NBC

Why you should care: The Trojans and Irish play for something called the Shillelagh. Yeah, like that matters. The real booty on the line is the national championship trophy, especially for USC. Win here, which the Trojans have done just twice in their past 11 trips to South Bend, and USC has to sweat only a trip to California on November 12 and a season-ending visit from UCLA.

Colorado at Texas, 3:30 p.m., ABC

Why you should care: The Big 12 North is bad? Well, maybe, but not the Buffaloes. Gary Barnett has faced down NCAA investigators and school scrutiny and won. And remember the 2001 Big 12 title game? Texas does -- it got upset by Colorado. But this is a different Longhorns team. They're drinking up the 10-gallon expectations that sit before them, keeping in line for their first national title since 1970.

Florida at LSU, 3:30 p.m., CBS

Why you should care: Tigers Stadium hasn't been Death Valley to the Gators. Since 1981, Florida has a 10-3 mark in Baton Rouge. LSU remains in the hunt for the SEC West title -- and for the Rose Bowl, if the Tigers can win here, beat Auburn on October 22 and survive a trip to Alabama on November 12. A Florida win would keep alive the Gators' hopes of reaching the SEC title game for the first time since 2000.

Florida State at Virginia, 7:45 p.m., ESPN

Why you should care: If the Seminoles win this one, every self-respecting TV foof will stamp them "back" quicker than he can pick up a tube of hair gel. FSU still isn't as good as it used to be, but the Seminoles still are playing for the whole ball of wax. Virginia is college football's big tease. The Cavaliers are 1-12 all-time against Florida State.

Michigan State at Ohio State, Noon, ABC

Why you should care: You ever notice Spartans boss John L. Smith's crooked smile? Who knows what he's thinking? Maybe it's about Michigan State's first Big Ten title since 1990. Ohio State still could wear the Big Ten crown, but for a program that had great expectations, that's like getting underwear for Christmas.

UCLA at Washington State, 6 p.m., FSN

Why you should care: If you're a UCLA fan who believes in trends, stop reading. OK, you've made it this far. Here goes: A win on the Palouse would make the Bruins 6-0 for the first time since 2001 -- when they lost four of their last five and finished 7-4. More: UCLA has lost four in a row against Washington State. But a win over Wazzu could make the Bruins' trip to USC on December 3 a de facto Pac-10 title game.

Penn State at Michigan, 3:30 p.m., ABC

Why you should care: Welcome to the 21st Century, JoePa, where the notion of playing freshmen is as newfangled as wingtips and bow ties. Next thing you know, Paterno might start wearing Fubu shirts. Maybe not. But it's not too crazy to think the Nittany Lions could win the Big Ten for the first time since -- get this -- 1994. PSU's last win in Ann Arbor: 1996.

Louisville at West Virginia, 3:30 p.m., ABC

Why you should care: Cover your BCS-loving eyes -- it's a "big" game in the new Big East. Astute analysts like to say you can "throw out the history books" when two teams meet in a colossal contest. Well, you really can believe it here because these programs haven't met since 1993. Win and the Cardinals will have a great chance to run the table. The same is true of West Virginia.

By Saturday night, Brady Quinn will have passed Vince Young in Heisman hype.

ND wins in an offensive shootout 46-45.

Not so sure I buy into that second thing there. If I'm Charlie Weis, the LAST thing I want to do is shoot it out with a team that can score 21 points in a 4 minute span. I'd rather play keep-away. Run the ball. Keep all the friggin' speed on the bench. Take a few shots now and then down the field; but otherwise, just grind it out and count on USC to get impatient and make mistakes.

I think either ND wins by 3, or USC wins by 20.

Of course, I could be wrong.
