Mini-Mexico

i just got back from the VT / UMD game and finally got a chance to see 'little mex' in person (about 15 rows back). vick is incredibly fast. he doesn't have the moves mike has, but he just gets to the corner so quickly the defense at this level just can't get to him. VT ran the QB sweep about 5 times tonight, that is a pop warner play and he made it work.

on the other hand, all of the analysts are saying that he throws a better ball than mike. if that is true than mike can't throw for sh*t b/c i was completely underwhelmed by marcus' ability to throw the ball. he is probably only about 5'10 and on 1 int he definitely couldn't see over the line to see the LB he threw to. he never looks good in the pocket and he has a funky side-arm delivery. i know he will get the chance to play QB in the NFL but if anyone should ever change positions it would be him. i could see him being a santana moss type receiver in the NFL.

if rigs reads this i would like to hear your opinions on little-mex.

Interesting analysis. I watched the game and VT was moving the ball at will. The Terps were lucky to be close at the half.

Have you seen BC this year? They play VT next week in Blacksburg. After tonights game I don't think BC's D has a chance against Vick.

Nice job Fo_Block....went out tonight and popped a tape of the VTU-UM game in the VCR and will fast forward through it tommorow.

Tonight, I caught a sneak-peak of the stats and both QB's stats (Vick & Hollenbach) were ugly (1 TD; 5 ints)....Marcus had 0 TD's and 3 int's.

Honestly, I wouldn't rank Marcus among the top 10 junior QB prospects and don't buy into the hype that he's a future first rounder.

As you stated, he's short --probably 5'11", at most....Also, while fast, he's not as fast Michael....Marcus can knife through ACC defenses on the run, but doesn't have the speed to do that in the NFL.

I've seen Marcus about 3 times this season and his accuracy is great ---but really only great with short throws.

Personally, I don't think he's real special as a pro prospect, but he's good enough to lead a very talent VT team....Hollenbach might be a better pro prospect, at 6' 5', with a solid arm.

Kind of the opposite of Jay Cutler, who's got mad skills, but plays for a team with D-2 caliber receivers and lineman.

As far as him playing WR in the NFL, that's possible....I've seen reports of Mike Robinson (Penn State) and Haggans of Virginia switching postions, ala Matt Jones, R. Marshall and Josh Cribbs from 2004.

Another junior to watch out for, if a postion change happens, is UNLV QB Shane Steichen, only runs in the 4.5's, but at 6'5", runs like a deer....He's injured this season, but moving to WR could be best for him, like Vick.

I remember reading articles about Vick showing up at high school All-Star games and recruiters saying that he should never start a college game at QB because of his ability at WR, where he was taking some snaps. They said he had in-the-air ball skills like Torry Holt.

I watched part of the game on ESPN. Vick threw a couple of really bad balls that were intercepted- one he threw going backwards. He seems from tv screen to be pretty fast-as R44 said though there is a big difference in players in the NFL and a college team set of linebackers chasing you

I'm just not a fan of the running QB in the NFL. I don't want Vince Young and I don't want Marcus Vick. it always works out the same the running QB gets to the show and runs like crazy, gets hurt. Then gets drilled into him that he can't run like he did in college in the NFL, and becomes a drop back QB - over time loses his run ability (or is more reluctant to use it, see McNabb). Why not just get a drop back QB from the get go?

Oh yeah, we wouldn't want another Vick or McNabb. All they've done is faced each other in a Conference Title Game, a place Pennington and co. have never been in his entire career.

Face it, McNabb and Vick win. The difference in records for the Falcons when Vick starts and when he doesn't is incredible. McNabb has led his team to 4 NFC Title Games and a Super Bowl. Say what you want about him "choking", but at least he made it far enough to have the opportunity, something the Jets haven't been able to do in 37 years.

I want Brady Quinn!!!

This guy is great. IMO most NFL ready QB in college right now. He gets better every week, makes good decisions, has a decent arm, and has incredible pocket presence.

I'm sure a lot of it has to do with Charlie Weiss but heck Brady is doing well post-weiss I bet Quinn can take what he's learned and apply it to the NFL.

Hey Bit, just curious, how did you rate Byron Leftwich coming out? I love the way that guy drops back in the pocket and surveys the field. Thanks in advance. :)

Mcnabb only became a good NFL QB when he cut back the running to a mimimum and became more of a drop back passer. It's one thing to be mobile, like Steve Young or Tarkenton. But run first guys do not work long term. Between injuries and not helping your offense, running QBs at some point get hurt. Your receivers also get discouraged. See ya, Peerless. The Falcons seem to have a revolving door at WR. Run your route perfectly, get open-and then watch Vick take off. Which is why this is a very winnable game, and why the Falcons will at some point crach&burn in the playoffs.

chad pennington has never won a Super Bowl in the NFL.

That's my boy.

If a "running QB" can't win in the Super Bowl, then straight up, pure "drop back passers" with NO MOBILITY can't, either. Even guys like Brady and Manning can move if they need to. Chad Pennington, for a guy with his body type, is slow as molasses, and it definitely kills us.
