Jets | Cotchery Expected to Start - If McCareins Can't Play

Fri, 21 Oct 2005 20:24:45 -0700

Bob Herzog, of Newsday, reports New York Jets WR Jerricho Cotchery will start the team's Week 7 game Monday, Oct. 24, if WR Justin McCareins (strained calf) can't play. WR Wayne Chrebet would remain the No. 3 wide receiver.

Wrong. Cotchery has been given more playing time with the offense this season, than Wayne Chrebet.

barton, Cotchery should have been firmly established as the Jets #3 WR when training camp broke.

Chrebet should have been filling in for him, not the other way around.

Another bonehead move by Hermy. #-o

Actually Tx, this was Dinger's call. He wanted tougher guys at WR and said Chrebet would be the # 3. One of the reasons he demanded dealing Moss was because he wasn't tough enough. Of course, now that Dinger has seen how big of a pussy Pennington is, he regrets taking this job, but that belongs in a whole other thread.

In any case, Herm COULD have overridden Dinger and gone for the youth, but knowing Herm's history of sticking with veterans, that had about a 0 chance of happening from the start. Dinger chose to stick by the vets, Curtis and Chrebet, on offense, and Herm never questioned that decision.

80, thanks for the clarification.

I guess I can't knock Hermy on this one then.

He would have looked like a complete fool if he overode Dinger's recommendation.
