1. Joe & Evan

2. Boomer & Carton

3. Schmooze

4. Jet Kingdom

5. Mac & Tierney

It makes me sad for our culture that Boomer and Carton does any ratings at all. It's just a testament to how bad and out of touch Mike and Mike is.

My top five:

1. The Lead-off Spot: no one hears it because it's on from 5a-6a but it's two younger guys on 1050 who do a really excellent job covering the stories from the night before, with a real focus on NY sports. Smart and funny, free of BS.

2. Mike Francesa: You go in knowing he's just pulling your chain, and that he's in the pocket of just about every owner in the city, but it's undeniable that the guy knows how to draw an audience. He single-handedly gave careers to sportswriting washouts Bob Raissman and Phil Mushnik who essentially serve as his personal paparazzi.

3. Jody Mac: old-school FAN guy can really entertain and inform. It's a pity FAN pushed him out. I also hate the fact that ESPN pairs him with Tierney, who is little more than that idiot at the bar that no one wants to speak to. It's amazing how ESPN keeps trying to find a slot and/or partner for Tierney even as he fails time after time.

4. Shmooze: A funny guy who appreciates his audience and doesn't treat them like idiots, even when they are.

5. Stephen A. Smith: Like Francesa, you know he's got an agenda, but he's actually pretty insightful and funny when he wants to be.

Shows/People I won't listen to:

1. Mark Malusis: obnoxious and boring, and his tagline, "If you can't play it, talk it" manages to be both condescending and grammatically incorrect at the same time.

2. Michael Kay: Unless you enjoy listening to an endless stream of Yankee apologism mixed with clueless observations about everything non-Yankee related, I have no idea who listens to this show. Being paired with the somnabulistic Don LaGreca doesn't help, either.

3. Craig Carton: Mix the worst parts of Opie and Anthony with the worst parts of Chris Russo with the worst parts of Sid Rosenberg and you get Craig Carton. Boomer sucks, too, but if you don't have Sirius and you like sports talk on the way in to work, you're forced to listen to half of this show.

4. Adam the Bull/Richard Neer/Evan Roberts: White noise specialists, and Roberts is a preachy 24 year-old telling people how they should be rooting for their teams. EAD, son.

5. Tierney: Once argued with a caller by screaming "That's my opiniooon! It can't be wrong!!!!" Awful.

steven czaban does a 45 minute bit on a local show out here. I'm not sure what he is like in Redskin territory but he is by far my favorite guy to listen to.

Enjoyed listening to him in the morning before he was taken off of FSR. Do notlike Stephen A on the radio. Enjoy watching him on TV, but radio...blah blah blah.

please give me muiltiple exmaples of Mike North's alleged racism

ATLEAST 2

I assume we both want to avoid a discussion of the definitions of the words latent and coding, so I'll eschew memory (though I can't resist a mention of the Amos 'n' Andy voice he'd occasionally use when discussing "the brothas") and stick to the big ones, like the time he called Jae Kuk Ryu a Chinaman and the time he said Antonio Mora could draw more viewers if he wore a sombrero on the air.

That's pretty racist.

FYI, Czabe is back on in the morning Sporting News radio, which is availale on XM/Sirius, online & via smartphone radio apps if you can't get him over the air.

Here in Richmond, we freaked on the FSR affiliate when SAS went on, we were one of the first to bring Czabe back on...

I can deal with his shows, but you are pretty much spot on that he is kind of a moron. Ill never forget the time when he was filling in for Wally and the Keeg (may have been when they got booted but the lineups were not yet changed) and he was doing the Herm interview of the week. He started telling Herm his ideas for how to get everyone involved and wondered at what point the Jets would simply put Lamont Jordan at Tight End. He was dead serious about it too.

Also agree about Jody Mac. Never in a million years could I understand why they would choose Sid over him. Sid was like a ticking time bomb, who ended up blowing up at least twice after that and being removed from the station, yet they thought it made more sense to have him there. Never understood it.

I'm constantly befuddled as to why ESPN keeps trying so hard to create a role for him on that station. He fails everywhere he goes. Believe me, if I'M annoyed by someone's ill-informed, illogical ranting, you know it's been it to new levels of idiocy.

Also, agreed on Sid. I can't understand the appeal.

We'll simply agree to disagree about Brandon as above.

As to Rosenberg; it wasn't any great secret he was getting into bookies and dealers all over the place. Don't wish any ill on the guy, and hope he gets himself turned around if only for his family's sake. But it isn't like he's some brilliant mind. And he sounds like Maury Amsterdam on a 3 day crack binge(for anyone under 40; this is not a compliment). Yet FAN choose him over calm, reasonable informed and reliable Jody McDonald.

No disrespect intended on the Tierney critique. One of my neighbors was the young John Rothstein, who does a lot of fill-in work and NCAA stuff for 1050. I remember he was six years old, quoting Mattingly's stats like Rain Man. But he's a tough listen on the radio. I still root for him, though, because of the personal connection.
