A+ Did you ever see the documentary "they shall not grow old"? Peter Jackson found and remastered all original WW 1 footage, and mixed it with original WW 1 interviews with the actual soldiers. I saw Parasite yesterday. Definitely the craziest birthday party scene ever. That was crazy and inventive. I don't know about the best but its definitely interesting, different and brilliant. I saw the Irishman in a movie theatre. I enjoyed it and thought it was a great film. It's slow and long. If I watched it at home I wouldn't have sat through it. For me watching movies on the big screen puts me in a mind set to not be distracted and let it happen. LOL, my brother in law was the one who told me about it and literally said, you have to see it if just for the trip scene alone, it’s the best trip portrayal of any movie I’ve ever seen. and it really is. I don’t really watch movies multiple times but read after, there’s a bunch of great visual subliminal messages in the background throughout the movie, in the trees etc etc. im wondering if the dir is going for a loosely based trilogy type of theme, like three colours, or something. these first two Films are so satisfyingly different in plot but with such stark similarities in narration and stuff Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

There are two versions, one for film and one for animation (two separate awards). They both run about the length of a full movies. Looks like rain later in the week so we should get in both. You will leave the theater with a solid opinion on which should win. Sometimes they do win and sometimes, like last year you wonder what idiots do the voting. I think gun to head I would take Parasite, for two reasons: First Bong Joon-ho may be the best in the world right now and every time people hail a release of his as him hitting his peak, he outdoes himself on the next one. The only reason he doesn't get mentioned with some of the other current greats in the U.S. is because he's a Korean making predominantly Korean films, and Americans overall still have an inability to pay attention to just how amazing Korean cinema has been the past 20 years. Giving the award to Parasite would be a much overdue recognition for not only Bong but also the entire country. Second I would say 1917 is an original and stunning way of making a movie, but overall it's not something that completely breaks down barriers and challenges things the way Parasite does. That being said, as bad as TPM was, it still has a scene that is iconic and epic. Disney SW was embarrassing, straight trash, homie. Then the red-door sequence ... Darth Maul wasn't going anywhere ... why the F would the Liam Niessen character go fight him alone when he & Obi-wan together couldn't get him ... wait 30 seconds for the red-doors to open again. Such a F'in shame ... such potential to be a truly great moment. F'in Lucas stole my childhood from me that day ... that d**shbag! Very highly recommended Saw the live action shorts tonight in Pleasantville. (FWIW, everything was in color). It had one that was excellent and four "OK" offerings. All in all, not as good as the last couple of years, but it was worth going to for the one (bring handkerchiefs) Animation shorts tomorrow. Hoping for better offerings. This theater also had the Documentary shorts so maybe movies three days in a row this week. These disappear from the theaters fast so if you like film ... Usually we see these with only a couple of other people at the Alamo but this was at the Burns, a true twinkle ding-dong type crowd so the theater was packed. It's a good movie in spots but suffers from just really awkward parts in the flick. As one example, the "birthday party" scene takes a really bizarre/cartoonish turn and becomes a hack job version of what Tarantino did in Kill Bill II's restaurant scene. Tony The Wiz Posted February 10, 2020 Share Posted February 10, 2020 I seen The Irishman, Parasite and The Joker. Was going to watch Once upon a Time in Hollywood but didn't get to it yet. I really want to see 1917 since I am a War Movie buff. But between the three I watched they were all great. The Joker is the most incredible performance in film and this may just be the movie. His Performance. The Irishman has my two favorite actors in it with Pacino and De Niro. And I love Mob movies. But Parasite is what really got me. I am much better at predicting stuff after it happens. Still thought that 1917 deserved it over Parasite. They got the live short Oscar exactly right but the animated short award was so ridiculous that it taints the awards as nugatory. An aside, when did Elton John get so fat?
