  1. No thanks. Ten years of actual education on the topic has guided me FAR more than the average American's opinion on the subject. Pass.
  2. I think the Bears go QB, but will trade out of #9, recoup picks in 2nd round, and stock up in later rounds in this draft and next year.
  3. Yeah,......Sure they do. Warren Buffet says hi for starters. Not having this discussion here.
  4. Would he be my number one choice: No. In the end, I think Bakhtiari will be here. If there is no other option: Yes. On a one year deal as a depth player.
  5. YEah because it will cost the Jets SO much to try. The mentality of the traumatized Jet fan base could use a collective Ayahuasca trip.
  6. Completely fair assessment. I liked most of the first year draft picks. Unfortunately, none of them worked. In hindsight, the VERY first pick should not have been such a swing for the fences type pick. It was more like swing to knock the ball out of the park, rather than a solid base hit to get things going. But man - had that have connected!
  7. We'll put you down as "1 VOTE AGAINST JOE DOUGLAS." Now, here is a good question: The next GM, whoever he/she/it is. Would you rather have the roster that JD will hand over, or would you rather have the 2019 roster when JD took the job? Or the 2015 roster when MM took the job? Or the 2013 roster when Idzik took the job? The desperation for winning, and the WIN NOW obsession of the fan base, fueled by a relentless media machine, and the continual choice of picking rookie for the GM position is a recipe for a gigantic disaster. Personally, I would take this roster that JD has built. It could be a QB away from ten years of success. But he won't be steering the ship if the playoffs elude us for another season.
  8. I do not disagree with anything you have said. Now, you might know more inside stuff about what Joe could have got for the 2nd overall pick. I think the sin with his pick is the sin EVERY GM seems to make, especially new ones: When they get a chance, they go out and get THEIR QB. Who knows? Sam Darnold with Sewell and some draft talent might have got us to the playoffs. We will never know. Lots of bad luck (injuries) and lots of bad QB play. There are no more excuses. Playoffs or gone. But as stated in another post, IF JD goes next year, he will leave this team in FAR FAR better shape than how Tannenbaum had left Idzik (even though Tannenbaum did fairly well), and how Idzik left Maccagnan, and how Maccagnan left Joe Douglas.
  9. Don’t use a First Round Pick on a Backup: This makes ABSOLUTE sense, but conflicts with this next one: Have a better plan for depth at tackle: The reason players make it to free agency is they are either probably injured/have been injured, they have priced themselves out of the cheap labour market, or they are trying to make as much money as possible and will go to the highest bidder, no matter how crappy the team is. Injuries on the OL, as noted by many here, have risen quite a bit over the past five years. It is fine that we have a starting LT and RT (and good ones at that when healthy). But nobody stays healthy. It is a violent sport. And it doesn't matter if our GM is the greatest in the entire sport, NOBODY gets over 17 different lineman and 21 different line combinations in a year because of injury. You should have a starting line. If you are really good, you can have depth pieces. But you can't expect much when playing a 5th stringer off the street. So, do you want depth security, or do you not want to use a 1st rounder on a backup? Keep the wheel: Yup.....Rodgers wanted to be here. This isn't a victory lap. The GM talks to his star QB, and goes out and gets alternatives if the 'A' list isn't i) available or ii) affordable. Biggest criticism thus far (from me) about JD. Rodgers list wreaks of "getting the band back together" when some of the band members CLEARLY have lost some chops. Add more talent at wide receiver: Back to the first point: Do you want a WR sitting on the bench? You have Wilson and Williams. CLEARLY 1 and 2. You can only get so many reps for everyone. To me, this would be the PERFECT year to trade down and make sure you recoup a 2nd this year. A very deep draft in WR and OL. We already have a shiny toy in Garrett Wilson. This team would be better off with another Tyler Boyd-type WR AND a very good prospect/depth piece on the OL, rather than say mortgaging the future and going after Marvin Harrison Jr. Shiny toys lose their lustre. Well-oiled machines work better.
  10. Seems to be true. The way he approached F/A was prudent. Not many big-ticket items, but lots more plug-and-play 1-2 year contracts. Done the best anyone could do with that Mosely contract he was saddled with (thank you MM). But, the last line rings true: If there are no playoffs, there is no more JD, Saleh, Hackett, and the rest of the coaching staff. We will be starting over again. At least, we will be starting over with two of the best CB in the league, a star WR, a very good RB, and a solid pass rush.
  11. And I ask again: name a GM that hasn't made multiple bad decisions over the entire course of their careers. If we didn't have the 2nd pick in a year with one of the worst QB classes in recent memory, everyone would love JD. With good QB play, this team makes the playoffs the past two years. We had 9 different linemen play multiple positions last year, and (I think) 15 different people played on OL last year for us. And we were still in the playoff picture going into December. You are one of the smartest and most informed people on this board. And I get this fan base is shell-shocked from the longest playoff drought in all four major sports, and about 10 presidents since a Super Bowl win. But this team has more talent than any team since Rex Ryan's tenure. Christ, Mark Sanchez could have got this team to the playoffs. Vinny Testeverde might have got us as deep a playoff run as he did for Parcells. But we all know what happens after this season if the Jets do not make the playoffs: New GM, new head coach, new OC, new DC, new coaching staff, new starting QB. If that is the route we go, the next GM will be better set up than any of the last four ever were. Not sure why that is so hard for some to accept.
  12. It's hard to respond to guys like you. You cannot change their negative mindset. Feel free to apply to be the next Jets GM.
  13. If you could point out all the GM's in the NFL who hasn't made an 'idiotic decision' according to each fan base, I would be grateful.
  14. Only one post in! This franchise has destroyed the psyche of an entire fanbase. You can't ask your GM to do more than what he is done. Will it result in victories? Who knows. Joe Douglas has been the best GM this franchise has had since Parcells. It hasn't resulted in victories (thanks to lousy QB play that he was a part in picking), but he has done well. Hopefully, the next GM can build on the solid base JD has started.
