  1. I’ve been lurker for a couple of months just to get updates on training camp and such This is a great forum and website with fantastic posters and world-class information on the New York Jets I have been a Jets fan since 2004, and I can honestly say I have never been so excited for an upcoming season It’s hard for me to get good Jets information because I’m so far away from the team location (I’m from Western Canada) so this place is a godsend I’m excited about joining the community here and J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS!

  2. Hi everyone! I've been a Packers fan for 20 years. Brett Favre has started every game since I was ten years old. My heart is broken tonight as the eternal optimist in me always hoped that he and the Packers would find a way to salvage their relationship. I moved from Michigan to Wisconsin prior to last football season (not specifically because of the Packers, but it was a nice perk) and I'm disappointed that I won't be able to watch Brett play every game. That said, while I'm still going to be a die-hard Packers fan, I'm now a fan of the New York Jets as well. I haven't quite wrapped my head around that. But believe me when I say that the NYJ results will be just as important to me as the Packers results, and I'll be cheering just as loudly for the Jets as I do for the Packers (maybe even moreso until I stop being as hacked off as I am right now). I look forward to "meeting" and interacting with you all. I suspect that the Jets will end up having a special place in my heart even after Favre retires. I look forward to booing "our" first round draft picks in the future. I'm one of those people that uses the word "we" when referring to my favorite teams. It doesn't quite feel right yet. But it'll come I'm sure. I did live in the same dorm at Michigan as David Harris. I'm excited to get to root for him. Also, I'm from Louisville originally so I've always liked the Cardinals, so I'm happy to see Kerry Rhodes on the roster. He's panned out pretty well, hasn't he? Anyway, aside from "expect heartbreak" what do I need to know to be a good Jets fan? And more importantly, how's the team look this year?! I can't claim to know a lot about you guys. I hope you all come to love Brett Favre even a fraction of the amount that I do...

  3. So I don't imagine anyone will see this tonight since everyone is busy masturbating all over eachother over the whole Favre thing. I guess I won't have to worry about it being bumped for a while. Here's a nice little welcome back present for Jetman67. Oh yeah and Bugeater. This will give you an idea of what you have to look forward to.

  7. So by that logic, since the Jets went 10-6 in 2006, there's no way we could be below ".500" in 2007 even if the starters at 6 positions were downgraded. Well we just upgraded at 6 positions (QB, FB, LG, RT, NT, OLB) and a 7th if you count either the 2008 Bryan Thomas or Vernon Gholston being an upgrade to the 2007 Bryan Thomas; a prediciton I would feel confident making.

  10. No I am not kidding and not trying to be funny either. I am dead serious. Favre is not going to retire like this. He still wants to play, just not for the Packers. Get rid of the noodle. Sign Favre, start Favre and in the process have him mentor Clemens for a year or 2. This is the kind of move that would make us serious contenders.

  18. Dear Brett, Some say that the universe is a cyclical closed-circuit loop, and that everything comes to wrest as it should, eventually. If that is the case, then your recent coronation as Jet QB V78 (or there abouts) should be viewed as fait accompli, and the Jets should have really drafted you in 1991. Call me skeptical. This is not 1991. Nor is it 1998 or even 2002. This is 2008. A scant 4 months after you told us you were finished. Finished with an illustrious career, with near storybook results. Truly a marvel with feats that may never be seen again in NFL annuals. And I am left to wonder if you should have closed that book, and began writing a new one. Because, that is where you are today. A brand new book. Unfortunately, your prior accomplishments mean nothing to me. Sitting here as a New York Jet fan, consecutive game starts, massive yardage, TD records, heroic comebacks do nothing to assuage my want of a winner of a New York Jet football team. And I am not sure that you can bring that to this franchise. I question your heart, and I question your desire. The recent fiasco only leads me to these conclusions. I realize, this is an unfair stance to take with someone I don't even know. It may seem unfair that I force you to prove yourself, after everything that you have accomplished in the league. But I am not in the mood for personal victory parades and final laps around the track for the glory of the individual. I am only concerned in team results and the betterment and future of the New York Jet franchise. My hope is that you understand that. If there truly is a switch in you which is able to quickly go from retiring athlete to the greatest challenge of your career, then I will wholeheartedly stand in admiration. Just call me a little cynical at this juncture. And this will be a challenge unlike any other that you have faced. The scrutiny and the glare will be blinding. The hamlet of Green Bay gets swallowed in the gulf that is New York. Trivial occurences become festering back page headlines. And results matter. I hope that you have taken all of that in account. I wish you the best of luck. Not for yourself, but selfishly for myself and legions of other long suffering Jet fans. Crack that playbook.

  19. The guy was nothing but a class act who couldn't avoid the injury bug. Don't feel too bad though. I'm sure by Monday someone, be it Minnesota, Chicago, or KC will sign him.

  20. I'm not crazy about it but I will always support whoever is under center. Favre is absolutely and upgrade over Chad and Kellen. He will make team better THIS YEAR. Will he get them to a Super Bowl ? NO Will he help get them to the post season ? Very Possible Will this whole off season be a complete disaster with Favre the icing on the cake. ? Very Possible. The cynical Jets fan. Will say that the last time the Jets went on a spending spree like this they ended up 1-15. The optimisitic Jets fan can tell you that when Joe Montana went to the Chiefs he got them to an AFC Champioinship and that Favre can do that. Right now Favre has a month to learn the Jets playbook, acclimate himself with his new teammates and become a leader. Pretty tall order if you ask me. I really hope he is the piece that gets the Jets back into the post season. The schedule looks alot more do able then it did last week. One thing for sure. Favre will make things interesting and on September 14th the Medowlands will rock for the first time probably since the last time Favre was here, the last game of the 2002 season.

  21. I find it funny how people (myself included at times) get so bent out of shape over politics and left/right, liberal/conservative... no matter what we feel or think, the politicians will do whatever the f#ck they want. Political discussions are the worst. Sure, I differ in my views from you, but in the end will either side do what we want? Nope. It will be the same sh!t thats been going on for years. I have a problem with anyone who spouts rhetoric and sides completely with one party and their views. I cant see anyone with a brain who isnt in the political machine agreeing with all the talking points of one side. We are trained to use our brains to think and reason. And when we think and reason we see we mostly fall in the middle, not leaning to one side or the other. One thing that always bothered me about my father voting democrat was he did it because they were pro union. He didnt agree with other things, but because of that he voted democrat. Now that he's retired, amazingly he's off the democrat bandwagon. Oh well. I just wish we'd all realize politics and politicians are a joke. And we get effed in the end no matter who is in office.

  33. Not sure why any of you are torturing yourselves by listening to those tools on ESPN. Who knows what is going on! Half the manure they spew is exactly that - manure. It's 'gonna be a bidding war and an appeal to Favre's ego. Either one of these teams - Tampa pr the Jets - could get Favre. Stop killing yourselves by reading John Calyton's crap or Mort's crap or Smith's crap....sleep well, have some nice dreams and who knows, Brett could be a Jet tomorrow.

  35. With the immaturity aside, If the jets do pull this off, which is about 50/50 right now.. I think your future QB, will be Erik Ainge... And if Farve is only a 1 yr guy, it was not worth it.. Maybee Bubba Franks could text him for you.. Im still saying he will be on the Bucs, but the jets would be very interesting:character42:

  39. Yeah, I just couldn't resist coming back and reading this post and now, well I guess I have to reply. I've taken a lot of abuse in this thread, so here are my overall feelings on the Favre scenario: He will us a better team, yes. BUT, I do not think he can or will win us a Superbowl. You guys obviously think we're ready to make that step, I don't. You guys think we have a better team than the 07 Green Bay Packers, I don't. I honestly believe that Favre, in this stage of his career is limited as to the damage he can do in the playoffs. He was awful last year vs good defenses (See the Dallas game, The Chicago games, The Redskins game, The Philly game etc.). He was terrible in those games and then in the playoffs, he beat an overrated and inconsistent Seattle team and played well, I'll give him that. He then completely blew it vs The Giants, throwing the game away in OT. Now of course he put up good #'s and yes he would be fun to watch, but I just don't believe it will help this team in the long term to sign Favre. And I know, we're not looking great at QB right now, but Favre will not make things better in the long run. The last thing in the world that I want to see happen to the Jets is what just happend to the Packers. Now their Young QB is under all the pressure in the world, in his (I think) 4th season without having started a game. They've also used another 2nd round pick on a QB in that time which could prove to be wasteful depending on what they have. I don't want that to happen the Jets. I don't see the point in signing Favre if it's not to win a SB and I can't see that happening with this team. This is the same Brett Favre who's been terrible 2 out of the last 3 years, and even in that good year he was awful vs the top tier defensive teams. I just can't see how Brett Favre will beat tougher AFC defenses and get this team to the SB, I don't see what's going to stop him ****ting the bed all over again. That's my opinion. He's shown in the past that he will do this, he will **** it all up when it comes to the playoffs. I'd be very interested to see how the Jets Fans who love him so much now would react if Favre threw a similar wasteful ball that he threw vs The Giants. i doubt it would be pretty. There are people who think that the 2008 New York Jets are going to be a more talented team than the 2007 Packers. I wish I could be as optimistic but I'm not so sure that will be the case. We have to wait and see just how much of the 07 Packers success was on the Team and not the QB. I'm of the opinion that it was more so the team, I see posters like Barton think it was all Brett's doing last season. If that were the case, I wonder why they were so bad the two years previous. You guys are all entitled to your opinions, If you think I'm a 'dooshey' for thinking otherwise, that's fair enough. I don't think signing Brett would offer too much, would it make us a better team? Probably but I don't think it's worth investing in a soon to be 39 year old QB who's always unsure of his future just for a few more wins. The ultimate goal is always to win a championship, I can't see how Favre brings us any closer to that goal because I'm a firm believer that he himself, will not provide it. Anyways, if we do indeed sign Favre I will root for him. I won't have the expectations that some of you have but I'll still cheer my guts out for him every Sunday. I'm hoping it doesn't happen, I've explained why, but if it does I'll definetly not be pulling against him. I'm just hoping the Jets make the best decision for their future. It's as simple as that.

  40. Yes, that's the only reason. Nothing to do with the WR's ability at all. If Favre ends up in Tampa I guarantee you Aaron Rodgers and The Pack will have a better record.

  42. I have to really question some of the posts in this forum. So Jeter needs to get "mad" in order to succeed? A guy who has probably been a consummate professional,(and this is a Met fan talking), you are suggesting is just relaxed at the plate and needs to channel anger, and that will fix him? I just wonder sometimes.

  43. Yeah, but im sure Thor is a good guy offline. If he comes to Seattle I would gladly buy him a beer. I reccomend everyone make this road trip. The Jets could win the division that game.
