  11. I don't feel like it's us against them, but I am completely against establishing legends. Except PDM. That's nothing against EY or CTM. I also don't much like reading about JI or DWC. I think we should probably have a seperate forum for that drama, but I'd probably read it anyway.

  20. It hasn't been that great for at least a decade or more, I've seen articles in the ABA newsletter as far back as 91 saying law is not a good field. There's only one extra year for medical school over law school, and although that's expensive I don't think that makes either option better than skipping both altogether. The jobs you listed you can either get without law school or also like to see some work experience, work experience you aren't getting while in law school. You're far better off being a cop after undergrad, and then going into the FBI for instance after 3 years. You won't have the debt and you've got some experience. A government job that requires a legal degree is generally going to be competitive as well, requiring work experience in most cases that someone won't have right out of law school, but will need to build either as an attorney or doing something else they didn't need a law degree for. The average salary of a doctor is far higher than that of an attorney. Medicine tightly regulates physicians, so much so that they purposely shortfall by about 20% or so, and need to fill the gap with foreign physicians. Law isn't done this way, instead jobs wind up getting outsourced to India (lol). Sure, the top attorneys can make fortunes, but you can't go in expecting that, it's just not realistic. But pretty much every physician can expect a certain salary since there's not much variance, although again top surgeons can make a fortune as well. Since I mentioned to foreign option, I'll mention a friend of mine who is in medical school in Antigua. I'm pretty sure everything is on scholarship there, and he does his rotations in NYC, so he basically becomes a doctor without debt. On malpractice, attorneys have to get malpractice insurance as well, and on top of that, answer to the ethics committee everytime a client has a problem, no matter how ridiculous it may be. On top of that, there is required Continuing Legal Education (CLE) which requires time and money, plus registration fees. I don't believe doctors have these requirements. SJ I'm not trying to say one field is better than the other, but rather law isn't the slam dunk you're making it out to be. I don't think medicine is as bad as you're saying it is either, I come from a family of doctors and they all seem pretty happy with their jobs, and it's just such a stable field. Right now the economy is terrible, but in general I don't think going into huge debt is the brightest choice no matter what. You're discounting the medical field for something that you think *could* happen, but is extremely unlikely. Physicians are one of the most powerful lobbying groups in the country. That's why it's near impossible to sue one and succesfully win on malpractice (shorter SOLs, caps on payouts, really high standards of proof and a lot of protection for defendants in medmal, etc. the medmal field is dying and will dry up within 5 years). No way the medical board allows socialization in the US, it's just not going to happen. I'd bet my right arm on that.

  33. Bleh! Unless you go to a blue chip school, JD's are a dime a dozen. May as well get an MBA, MFA, whatever. That's just my take on it, SJ. I see so many new law school grads with NO jobs in sight. Heck, I know of a woman who graduated law school three years ago who is currently working as a nanny. Not that there is anything worng with that. Admirable work....I just don't think that's what she had in mind, you know?

  34. Jumping the gun much? How can you say a guy that has never even taken an NFL snap is better than Rivers? I'm not saying he's not but let's let the guy take a single snap before we start crowning him. Absolutely ridiculous. Oh, btw, Gholston is better than Lawrence Taylor... LMFAO.
